i am considering a membership this year

I wouldn't join a club. Too much money, too much hassle. I get on golfnow.com and look for the best specials around me. I get really good discounts and tee times. Nothing better than getting on a different course every week and playing something new instead of the same old course over and over again.

Maybe for you but it's all relative. A person that plays 100 times a year and pays $1600 in dues essentially is only paying $16 per round. Not every private club has a $20,000 initiation and $500 in monthly dues….especially with the state of the golf industry today. There are deals to be had in every state.

too much hassle.

Not sure what hassle(s) you are speaking of, please elaborate. IMO it is quite the contrary. I cannot speak for all but I would imagine most are run like mine. The obvious perks are the following:

1. Ease of tee-times 2. Pace of play 3. Course conditions (people tend to take much more pride when they are members) 4. The club committee controls membership 5. Various tournaments throughout the year 6. Youth programs 7. Camaraderie / friendships with other members Different strokes for different folks I guess...

that is why i jioned a club, plus the average private club just has a better golf course then the average public...the better conditions are a perk.

This is my 3rd year as a member and find that i enjoy it more every year not less.....sadly the membership fees were not 1,600.00 actually the food and drink bill is closer to that but it is my hobby and we all need to leak money somewhere!!

well i pulled the trigger yesterday

bought the membership at the City course, for the following reasons:

1. it was only $1580 for a membership at 3 courses
2. the Pro is a client of mine - he supports my biz and I will his
3. he threw in a range pass w 10 free buckets for FREE (which will last me all year and a value of $100)
4. he threw in a cart pass good for 10 rounds for FREE (which will also last me all year and a cost of $250)
5. it's closer to my work than the C/C is

so....it was a clear choice

All i really care about - golf whenever i want and IM A MEMBER AGAIN!!!

weee ho!
hahah!
