do weather conditions affect your club choice? I was playing yesterday in the rain and noticed that I was needing to go a club more than normal on all of my iron shots. Has anyone experienced this or was i just not making good contact?

There could be any number of reasons why rain might change your club selection. Off the top of my head:

  • Less bounce and roll (if you're used to bouncing the ball onto the green).
  • Swinging easier to maintain control.
  • Air is denser (with rain), ball doesn't travel as far.
  • Slightly fat contact really punished by super-"mucky" conditions.
  • Less backspin imparted to the ball doesn't keep it airborn as long (wet clubface/ball).
  • "Thicker" acting rough slows down the club faster.
So, those are several reasons.

of course rain.. or any type of irregular weather condition will affect your club selection. i experience it very often and over time you'll get better with feeling out what changes you need to make
