I currently play the Z-star x. It is a great ball, I like the firmer feel and the click off the putter and the greenside control but I would like a higher trajectory (mainly with my driver). I know I can get all this with a pro v1x but for half the price what would I gain and lose if I made the switch to the e5?

Try a sleeve and see what you think.

I've found them to be very good balls. There is a higher trajectory and they do check up nicely. I don't think they will perform as the ProV1X does. Two very different balls...in my opinion.

They feel good off the putter as well.

I played the E5 for most of last year.

I play the e5 occasionally and like its performance. As the previous poster stated, it's not a ProV, but it does check well and get up off the tee. Be aware that the e5 and e5+ are totally different, and i have found that I have been a bit inconsistent in stopping the e5+ around the green (feels like a firmer cover), therefore it's just not for me. The e5 is a quality ball overall, that performs well and seems quite durable. No one can tell you how you will like a particular ball, so try some. You can pick them up for around $20 a doz. on sale (maybe even cheaper if you look around) so if you don't like them, just hand them out a few at a time during your rounds to make new friends.
BTW, you may want to try Wilson Staff Zip balls, they have good firm feel, yet not hard as a rock and stop great. Also they are very cheap right now ($14.99 at GW). This has been one of the better budget balls i have played.
Have fun with trying them out.
