Going on my annual golf trip with 7 other guys for week at end of April. Havent been able to play yet this year and will likely only get out 2-3 times before I go. I have been playing same ping i3 irons for 11 years. Going to purchase a fitted set of irons this week (mizuno 52/58). Would you just game the new ones and not look back or shelve them completely until after the trip?

I recently purchased new irons and took me some time to hit em right because they are lighter than my old clubs. You'll see the difference when you get fitted... both weight and distance. I'd stick to the old sticks for the golf trip especially if you guys are playing for money!

I would see how you play with them first. Definately bring both sets.

I know when I got my custom fitted Pings, they felt better than my off the shelf Slingshots straight away. And I shot just as consistently. You never know, see what works for you.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

I say commit to them and go for it. A bunch of rounds during a golf trip is a great break in opportunity IMHO.

Speaking from experience, I wouldn't do it. I think of the places we've gone for our trips and if I had clubs I didn't feel comfortable with, it would absolutely ruin the fun for me. We did a Hawaii trip last October and I debated on just getting some rentals. All of us ended up taking our clubs and were glad we did.

Big difference between rental clubs and clubs custom fit to you. Plus the OP will have a couple of rounds under his belt before he leave for the trip. Plus I am assuming wedge, putter and woods are staying the same.
