i know winning a tournament is impressive no matter what. you go up against that many golfers with that talent in the field, it's a huge accomplishment. however, i'm a little surprised at how shocked people are acting that fred couples has done so well in his debut on the champions tour. starting with a runner up and then going on to win the next 3 tournaments is amazing...but it's FREDDIE and he's the young guy out there. he's obviously putting very well and a commentator mentioned yesterday that if he putted like that on the pga he would've won about 40 tournaments but in my opinion it's just bam bam being bam bam. couples has one of the smoothest swings you'll ever see and if he can keep his back healthy be prepared to see him at the top in a few more tournaments.

any other opinions?

Not not the first player to step on to the Champions tour and dominate. The way the courses are set up, as compared to the main tour, must give them tremendous confidence. Then after a few years the mental edge I think gets less and less. But 3 out of 4 is pretty dang cool!

Couples is definately doing a great job out there. I watched the whole tournament when it was on this week, and I was very impressed with his play. The champions tour showcases some very good golf, I enjoy watching it when its on.

I watch a lot of golf, all I can actually. Its even overtaken hockey as my most watched sport. And some weekends the competition on the champions tour is as good or better then some of the PGA rounds. I got into it because I was a big Greg Norman fan, but i've come to enjoy it a lot.

You have to say that the tourneys have had more drama at the end than the main PGA tour this year.

Who is acting "shocked"? People are impressed, but I doubt whether anyone is shocked. Possibly not even surprised. I have been watching most of these ebents and there is certainly no element of shock amongst the commentators.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Freddie is a beast out there! I think it's funny (and amazing) that after all those years of playing his push-fade from an open stance that he now hits a draw from that same stance. I never heard why he started doing it, though. Was it because he could get more distance (which doesn't seem THAT necessary on the Champions Tour... and as if he really needed it)? Or because he hit that push-fade by basically swinging hard and holding on, which could explain some of his back problems? I could see him just not swinging as hard now, giving his hands time to turn over a bit more (he already has the in-to-out swing path).

With due respect to Couples great playing, it is the champions tour were talking about here. Those courses must seem like pitch and putt tracks to him. So who cares? Wake me up when he burns up the big leagues.

Yes, he is playing very well, but look at the level of competition. Analogies that come to my mind are "Men against Boys", or "Biggest Fish in a Small Pond". The golf is entertaining, but the Champions Tour is where Jim Thorpe made $1.3M and $1.0M in 2007-2006 or Joey Sindelar makes $1.1M in 2009 which is almost what Couples earned last year against much harder competition.

Yeah I had heard his change of swing was to take pressure off his back. Same with his stylish shoes.

Freddy is doing what he does best, and that's being Freddy. Always shocking us with amazing shots and wins, but never seems to come out of his laid back tempo and mood. I can't wait to see him tee it up at the Masters on Thursday!

    • So far only -5 but... I've Birdied 2 of the 4 holes I wasn't able to last year.  Hopefully will Birdie all 18 this year, maybe an Eagle or 2!
    • Titleist TSR1 or TSi1.  Both have adjustable hosels. edit:  Forgot to mention the GT1.
    • I've been really absent all things golf since September but have been getting the bug lately.  Today in SE Michigan we have our first thaw of the year.  It is Sunny and 53 degrees and boy do I want to get on a golf course!  Spring is around the corner 🙂
    • I assume you are posting 15 or 16 holes and letting the USGA algorithm insert projected scores for the missing holes. How is that going? Are the projected scores reasonable? I have yet to do this.
    • You're right. I haven't really had an issue with this before, but it's definitely worth closing the legs a bit to see what happens. I've had 2 of these and never had this problem before. About 5 years of use between the 2. It's really odd. Yeah, I've always had a bit of inconsistency and misreads, but this is a new level. I did a baseline session last night, and all my of stack speeds had decreased by roughly 5-10 mph (with me throwing out the obvious garbage readings). Weirdly, the driver speed actually seemed to be right where I expected it. I guess maybe it's having trouble with the smaller head of the stack vs. a driver? Whatever it is, I think it's time for me to go with the stack radar.
