Two days ago I took delivery of a new set of Mizuno MP68s. I took them to the range and hit every one. The 3i was a bit hard to hit but the others were easy just like my old Spaulding Elites which are blades but from 1985. Today I went out and played a round and I was very happy with the clubs, but the direction is off.

I have question for those of you who have changed clubs a few times. When you switch to different set of clubs of the same type is it common to notice you hit them a bit off to the left or the right of where you would normally see your shots landing.

In my case I played a particular hole on this course the same way I played it the last two rounds I played. Each of the two previous rounds my 8i shots landed on a line with the pin and me. The distance was different each time but the straight putts resulted in birdies each time. Today I set up the same way and my shot landed 10 yards right of the pin. i noticed I could not hit a shot exactly where I aimed the entire round. Normal, to be expected with new clubs, what?

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Are you fit for them? Perhaps the lie angle is off (fit or otherwise).

Are you kidding? Everyone aims at a particular point and the result isn't always what you'd like. Are you suggesting that every time you play this hole with your other irons you expect the ball to be on line? The fact that you couldn't hit a shot where you aimed the entire round is very possibly due to the fact that you have chosen irons which are designed for extremely skilled players. Beautiful and seductive as they are, with respect, if your handicap is 26 - meaning that you rarely break 100, of all the irons curently on the market, the MP68 would almost definitely be the worst match for you. Sorry.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

SHINDIG: Yes, I had a pro fitting session with a Mizuno pro and they are exactly a match for my swing and stance.

SHORTY: No need to be sorry, and not everyone falls in to a proper category. My ballstriking with my irons is my only consistently good game portion. But I assure you if you play blades and nothing else you can learn to hit them. I did and do. I will rephrase the question if you switch from one manufacturers clubs to another of a similar design have you noticed you are off, either consistently left or right?

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

Sorry I can't help you further - my only switch was from my starter set to the MP-57s. That they fit and have that reaction is confusing to me, but I'm curious to know what you find out.

It could possibly be the difference of shafts in your old irons and your new Mizuno's. Also from what I hear Mizuno's are made 0.25" or 0.5" shorter than standard American lengths. Lots of variable in changing clubs.

Is your handicap updated? Someone who consistently hits his irons well and has a decent short game would be around at most a bogey golfer, most of the time.
