I wanted to ask you guys how you feel the distance of a shot. For me, there's something in my hips and hands that tell me how fast to spin and hit down on the ball. It works really well, yesterday I almost won $100 for making two shots in a trash can at the driving range from 100 yards out. I bounced the ball out on the second one.

So how do you guys feel the distance?

I try not to adjust the downswing at all. All I do is adjust the backswing and grip. I have a pretty good idea how far a ball will go with a full shot, so all I need to do is shorten and adjust the full shot to knock distance off. It is one of those things that is hard to explain. Equally hard to demonstrate. I just do it.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

With anything above a 9 iron... my yardages are too close (small gaps) to have to feel the yardages... plus, if I try to take 5 yards off of a 7 iron and hit it 140 instead of 145... I'll likely hit it offline, or hit it only 125 or so. But, with my 9 iron, pitching wedge and sand wedge (56 degree)... I can pretty much dial in a yardage with my hips and hands too. I know 70 yards is a full 56 degree wedge. I know 100 yards is a full pitching wedge. I know 115 is a full 9 iron. If I have to hit a 50 yarder... I know how far to move my arms back on the backswing and what speed to use through the ball to produce that shot. If I need to hit an 85 yarder... same thing, just with my pitching wedge. I think you hit it on the head... hips and hands. Anything else I would have to think about would produce some ugly, ugly shots.

Muscle memory I have hit so many buckets as soon as I range the flag and get a yardage my body knows how to hit it that distance, but I know what your saying.

I am not a range by distance guy. I got to get an exact yardage to get the club range i want, taking into consideration distance to front of green and back of green. Just they way i always played. I play with a few people who can look, pick a club, and hit it to the pin. I don't get how they do it.
