So this is my 2nd season playing and there is one constant in my swing and putting motion and that is I push the ball ALOT. If there is a reason that I have yet to break 90 since playing it is the penalties I incur off the tee when pushing the ball into hazards and out of bounds.

I toyed with it tonight with my 64 after a lousy round that saw a score of 100 and it felt much more comfortable. On the putting end it paid off immediately as I had to shoot a 46 on the back nine just to get to 100.

I have have looked at Fred Couples and Lee Trevino who have made a push work by opening up their stance to the target yet still swing on a path towards the target.

Outside of the potential for slices and pulls are there any other pitfalls from starting slightly open? From observing it has immediately forced me to bring the club back on a more straight back path rather than wrapping it around my back and to free up my swing which gets balled up from closing myself off so bad.

i dont know...just make sure that you feel like you are staying over the ball during your swing...now if you are kinda "collapsing your back side" and you are not straight up and down but more "reverse C" looking at impact, that will cause you to keep the club open at impact and you will push it. but if u keep your chest over the ball and try to stay a bit more level, then you should be able to close the club at impact a bit better. and also look at how your hands look when you set up to the ball. your thumbs will probaly be pointing somewhere toward the direction of the ball. now if at impact they are pointing more behind you and the back of your hands is more toward the ball, then you are obviously keeping the clubface open.

this is kind of a lot to say without seeing your swing, but if u notice that you are doing any of these things just fix them and you will be fine with a normal stance.

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
