I don't really see how a 30 handicapper being 15 yards further back on the tips would slow things down that much.

It can because on some holes there are forced carries that are now longer or other hazards are also brough into play. This brought back another thing I see way too much of. A guy that refuses to lose a ball. I mean he knocks it in the water or woods and spends a lifetime looking for it. Yes...some golfballs are very expensive. But still...5 minutes at the cost and that is even a long time if not playing in a tournament.

Let's say it takes the 30 handicapper 3 full shots (driver, 5 iron, 7 iron) to reach a 430 yd par 4. Add 15 yards, the 7 iron becomes 5. The chance of being near the green drastically decreases. Add on top he probbaly doesn't know where to miss, so more complications around the greens.

15 yards is 2 clubs. If he can hit the two clubs with no real difference, he should be better than 30 handicap.

As a 30+ handicapper, I'm routinely the worst in my 4-some.

I keep up. I'm also probably the most anal in my 4-some about making sure we're keeping up the pace.

Disclaimer: I do tee it up with the others in my 4-some unless they're playing way,way back. If everyone else is teeing from one spot, seems to be overall easier and less time consuming for me to do the same, given the rest of the way I manage my time on the course.

I spend very little time looking for lost balls, take multiple clubs to the ball from the cart so I can hit my six fairway/bunker shots at a fast pace ("I'll meet you on the green"), take no practice swings, play ready golf, and work quickly to be ready to putt with everyone else. If I waste a drive, I'll drop in the fairway or with my playing partner's ball. If I'm holding up the putting, I'll pick up and try again at the next hole. If I'm on the green with everyone else, I'll play at their pace or faster, not overreading to get my 11. Oh, and I have a very happy and positive attitude, love golf, and have FUN!, which keeps my playing partners from wondering why they ever bring me along.

For course management suggestions, it always seems I need a bathroom sooner than one shows up. Trees and bushes are my friend, but I'd prefer a facility on a more regular basis, indicated on the scorecard so I'll know when to expect one.

Excellent suggestion, thanks for adding in to the mix.....would be nice to have at least one on each nine, maybe 5 holes in or so.....

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
