Hey guys,

Last year I bought a 4-PW of Callaway X-22 clones called Grand Hawk XP-28 ( seen here ). What I'm wondering is if it's time to move on and get new, real clubs. Today just swinging some clubs at golf galaxy they just felt and definitely looked better. To be honest I was trying out Mizuno MX-300's and AP2's, but my clubs to me sometimes feel weird and very clunky. I got them fitted -2 or 3 flat (cant remember) and 1 inch short so it's not like they're totally bad for me (spec wise). Still they are kind of an embarrassment, having people ask you if you have X-22's and you say "No, they're just clones." Even the nicest of people sometimes look at you funny.

This year I've really been trying to spend more money and time on lessons and practicing rather than buying clubs, but I'm not really sure if these irons are worse than legit clubs and need to be replaced.

Has anyone else had clones and moved onto name brand? While I think clones are basically made the same, I don't really believe the quality or precision is the same. So should I move onto name brand clubs or sit where I'm at and get better, then when more money rolls in buy some new clubs that are better suited to my new improved game?

...I think I might've answered my question. Still what do you guys think?

Thank you!

im in the same exact boat as you, have clones now from gigagolf, but tired of people of asking what clubs i have and kind of embarrased to explain it to them, and same what you said, im sure they pretty much perform the same but like the quality and precision stuff you said. so yeah right now im saving up to get fitted for some ap1's, g10,i10,g15,i15,VR cavity backs or maybe some mizunos from golf galaxy idono which yet.

I would NEVER use clones. They will most likly not go though the same balencing process and making sure every club is the same. The shafts in them are also pretty bad I would expect. All the Big brand name clubs make sure they produce a high standerd in a club, to make sure there brand stays on top of the rest of the game.

I would sugest replacing them! But thats just me...

I have a friend that plays with those exact same clubs, and I bought the X-22's when they first came out. To be fair, I've never been able to hit a club with a lot of offset in them, so I traded them in, but when I hit his and hit mine, they felt and hit the same. The main difference I can see is how they're wearing compared to my clubs, which I've had a month less than his. Mine still clean up and look nice, where his are showing some wear, even though I play 12 rounds a month and he plays 3-4. But they still hit the same, just the chrome isn't as durable on the clones.

If you're hitting them well, I'd keep them and spend that money on lessons, but it's always nice to have real names on clubs. But trust me, at our handicap level, real clubs don't make you hit any better than the clones......... lol

The shafts are the same types of shafts you can get in name brand clubs, should be no real difference there.

Hey guys,

I played clones when I first got back into Golf. I used the clone set for 8 months till my 5iron, 7iron and PW heads came off the shaft. I got them glued back on, but I wanted better quality. I ended up buying the MX-25's I still hit today. My iron play is night and day compared to those days and I feel these MX-25's are still a great club. So, hitting those MX-300's are much better quality and will last you a long time. But it's hard to ever dispute getting lessons!!

I've never played clones, but my bet is that the quality is the same to be honest. One of the best golfers on my high school team, who plays to a 2 or 3 i would guess, plays Nike Slingshot clones. Not only are they clones, but slingshots, the epitome of a SGI. Honestly, if it works for you, use it. But if you've already convinced yourself that your clones aren't as good as whats out there, then it would be better to go out and spend 800 bucks on getting the confidence back, possibly the most important aspect of golf.
