I have had this happen to me several times. It usually only happens when I use my 60* wedge. I swing my club and hit the ball, but as I do my follow through the club head actually hits the ball again. My friend and I were debating on it if there should be a penalty on the shot. Anyone know if a penalty should be laid?

In the time you and your friend wasted "debating" it you could have looked it up:

But you can "honestly" tell a lie to avoid the penalty . . .

I remember watching the 1985 US Open When T.C. Chen did it.

T.C. Chen of Linkou, Taiwan, Republic of China, grandson of a farmer, son of a greenskeeper, was the true hero of Oakland Hills. He was the little-known pro with the modest smile and the physique of a chopstick who nailed Ben Hogan's monster with a 65 on opening day; who holed a 256-yard three-wood shot for the first double eagle in Open history; who tied Jack Nicklaus's Open scoring record of 134 for 36 holes; who still led the tournament after four holes on Sunday, which was at least two days longer than anyone thought he could; and who finally threw away a four-stroke lead with a miserable quadruple-bogey eight on the 5th hole. Not just any quadruple bogey, but one that included a double hit, a ball hit twice with one swing.

    • Day 44 (7 Mar 25) - It’s Friday, so it was the weekly round I play with the men’s group.  Solid day scoring wise for me - 42 front/ 41 back for an 83.  Of the 8 pars - 6 were up and downs (yeah buddy, those short game drills are paying off).  Best hole of the day was #13, a pretty straight up par 5.  Third shot was a 90 yarder - I played the INDI 50° to less than 2’ for a kick in birdie.  Its siblings were on as well - it was a short game kind of day.  It was not all good stuff with 3 dbl bogies….missed opportunities hurt the score still a great day to make the most of nGIR (thanks Erik for the teaching on this in Lowest Score Wins).
    • Day 158 - 2025-03-07 Edited a podcast, submitted my PGA award "stuff," and… got some wedge work in. Long day tomorrow so it's going to be tough.
    • There was also a partial tear of my rotator cuff. I see what you mean and no my hips and torso have nothing to do with my bicep.
    • Indeed. It is. RIP to them both. All-time scene here from Unforgiven:   "Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."
    • Day 28: 3/7/25 Plenty of putting through 50 mm gates today.
