I got a free Odessey 2 ball putter last season and its 35" long. Since I am only 5' 4" I always choke down on the putter shaft about 3". Should I cut that amount off ?
I often wonder if it will improve my game. I have tried out putters in the store that were 32" and felt much more comfortable to me.

Also while I am on the subject of shortening clubs. I am buying a Vokey 50 deg wedge next month. I will definately need it shortened. Do you normally shorten it from the grip end or the club head end ?

Shortening the club will affect the swing weight -- this includes the putter. However, I don't know if gripping down affects it, too.

The 32" ones in the store might be more comfortable because the swing weight for those is based on a 32" shaft. Many companies who have different putter lengths of the same putter will have different weights on the heads to give them uniform swing weight.

If you're buying the Vokey, are you buying it new? If so, don't pick one up off the shelf. Order it with the proper length shaft. It shouldn't cost you any different from one off the shelf, and might be just a delay.

Cut your putter down and adds some lead tape onto the putter head. You might want to ask someone at the shop to fit you for your putter and wedge. Just cutting down the length will not solve the problems. You need to adjust the lie on it as well while shortening. They cut down from the grip end so if its an old putter you may need a new putter grip as well. Good luck.
