I'm having a difficult time translating tilt to the left and stand up. I don't know if this is happening naturally by keeping the weight centered or if I should be making more of a concious effort which would help ball striking.

I just started S & T on Sunday.

The standing up portion is really confusing me. I can't get a feel of standing up in a backswing. Any good drills or explanations?

Also, I don't believe I have a good handle on sliding the hips. I saw the youtube video throwing a large rock, unfortunately I don't have access to a large rock and place to throw it.

I do not consciously think about standing up. But everyone will have different feels in their swings because we all have differently built bodies. The best way for you to tell if you have the backswing correct is to watch your swing on video. If your head moves down and/or left then you likely have too much tilt, and you need more standing up. The whole point is as you said to keep the head centered.

Personally, I think sliding the hips is one of the toughest parts of the S&T; swing. I know I struggle with it, and I think most people do as well. The best video I saw on it is . His feel of putting the belt buckle over the left foot is one of the best I have seen for getting linear.

I also should caution you, trying to do too much like fixing the backswing and sliding the hips can being tough. I suggest focusing on one, getting it comfortable and how you want it to look and then moving on to the next one. Biting off too much may get you frustrated.

You signed up for evolvr, right? If so, just trust that we'll get to the pieces in the right order.

Michael is right - you may not feel the standing up or you may not feel the side tilt if you already do them. Here's a good video for the three parts - standing, rotating, and tilting:
