Adjustable Drivers

Anyone play with an adjustable driver ?

One of my regular playing partners uses a Callaway something or other with a million different settings. He's tried them all at the range and still hasn't found one that leads to fairways during the round. He has the matching 3-wood (not adjustable) and he stipes the ball so well with the 3w it's like a different player. I think he shoulda gone with their regular driver, or a stronger 3-wood, but I don't want to hurt his feelings.

I play last years taylormade r9. Don't get me wrong I really like the driver and hit it better than all the other drivers I tried, but I don't think the changing of the clubhead does much for me. To me it seems no different then just opening up or closing down the clubface at set-up.

I got a Nike Dymo 2 str8-fit for this season. I am still trying to figure it out. So far, I have found that I can set it 1* closed and go at it and not worry about the right side. But it brings the left side into play now. I would like to use it neutral when I get it all figured out.

I've got the same (Dymo Str8-Fit, 9.5), set at 1° open and love it, though I've probably said a million times that I think a large part of what I love is the shaft. I also hit one of the adjustable Callaways last year and actually liked it too. I had kinda mixed feelings about the R9, but I dont think that had anything to do with the head itself. Wish I could have tried it with a slightly heavier shaft.

Compared to non-adjustable/glued drivers, I don't find that they feel different. Some have a problem with the appearance of the hosel, especially on the Nikes, but it never really bothered me much. I actually have been changing my Dymo up a bit lately, as it has been very windy, so I open it up another degree and play it at 7.5 to try and stay low. It's times like that the adjustability can be very helpful.

I just got a Nike Machspeed 9.5 degree. I set it for 1 degree closed & have virtually eliminated the right side. I have tried 2 degrees closed but it causes a bad hook. I have found that the adjustments make a big difference.

Not to be a buzzkill, but I'm just not a big fan of this new fad of adjustable drivers. Sometimes, giving the player too many options isn't a good thing. It's opening up a huge can of worms, while the average golfer is thinking about 1000 different instances in their swing – during the swing – adding adjustable options just compounds those thoughts.

I'd rather fix something wrong in my swing than try and adjust a club to compensate for a possible fault.

We don't care about practice and don't have the time or the will to "fix our swings". We just want something to make the game a bit more enjoyable by leading us to more fairways. We golf to have a good time with buddies, not to try to get to single digits or scratch. So for us, we like our adjustable drivers. It saves us from having to buy several different configurations to try.

I tried the SQ Machspeed a few weeks ago, think the setting was varied between neutral and fully closed. Honestly, it made no difference whatsoever to my heel-strike slices.

I'd rather have the option of a telescopic shaft to offer more control!

Well bloody said my friend...i love the sport ,but way too many take it way too seriously...were not pro's and never likely to be ...

I'm playing a pretty old-tech driver by todays standards. But, I really like the subtle changes in ball flight and swing weight with the TM MWT system. I can set the club to a soft fade and really go after the ball.

I have a Mizuno MP-600 driver, and I've found that unless you have a really repeatable swing the adjustable driver can't help you do anything better. But if your swing is so repeatable then why not fix it and
play better? THe MP-600 is no longer my go to stick, I've replaced it with a TM Burner TP and I'll suffer with it until I fix my swing. So I agree with Chubbs. But if you like your adjustability, then keep it and enjoy it.

I have a Dymo Str8Fit. When I first got it, I closed it 1 degree. After altering my swing mechanics, I switched to neutral. I still hit a draw and it feels great to hit.

It won't fix a fatal error in the swing and hitting the ball with anything other than the clubface makes hitting ANY club a moot point.

If you have a bad out to in swing adjusting the driver closed 2* isn't going to do a whole lot, from my experience. I leave my R9 on neutral and still fade it bad at times, but I would rather work on my swing than adjust the setting on my driver. But at least I do have the option to if I want...

Adjustable drivers aren't slice or hook killers, in my opinion. I like my VR's ability to add subtle changes in ball flight. But mostly, I just love the driver, and it happens to be adjustable.

I love the adjust ability! I have found what I like and what I don't. I like mine 1% open and it suits what I like to hit. I would have never found this out if it wasn't for the str8-fit.
