Does consistancy just come with time and practice? I seem to be very inconsistant on the course since I started playing better. Struggling to break 100 one day, and shooting mid-high 80's the next, then back to high 90's. All on the same course.

Find your weakness and practice on improve that area, keep track on your score cards your misses:

putts
up and downs
green hit
fairway hit
sand saves
lost ball

In my opinion the key to consistency is putting and chipping. I have missed my drive and saved par with a good short game by getting up and down and one putting. In my opinion if a high handicap golfer practice his pitch shots from 30 - 80 yards he would also help his overall golf swing, because you are practicing the impact zone and making solid consistent contact while you are sharpening your distance control.

If everyone practice like small kids they first learn to putt and then chip and will drive with their dads to within 100 yards from the hole and play in you will become better golfer, in my opinion.
