hey guys. so now that Iam going to focus on getting a new three wood and a new driver here is the driver thread.

I play the 975D right now with the graphalloy shaft. My swing is not super fast but I do produce a pretty good club head speed and pretty good power. with the 975 right now I am right around 290 yard drives everytime... sometimes more. and Iam pretty consistant with it. I can take it out on a narrow course and hit it pretty well. But, its getting old and I really need to get something new in the bag.
I love titleist. So I was looking at the 983. I know the shaft is one of the biggest things......
I have a Great big bertha 2 driver that I could re shaft, does this club head face have the spring effect?
I also have a taylor made 580, does that have the spring effect......
This is the big question for money sake does it make sence with all the new gear coming out to just re shaft the those drivers ?

Have you lost your mind?

Why would you look for a new driver if you're honestly hitting your current driver like that? My sugggestion would be to go look for a 905 headcover and leave something you hit consistently 290 yds straight, underneath it... If you've got the urge to buy something, maybe get some new shoe laces... Don't mess with consistency though

I have heard that drivers go dead by alot of guys i play with and I thought for awhile it was hype, but how old the shaft and head is, I have been thinking about switching for a "more" consistant flight....

am I crazy? heck i dunno

I dunno if they go dead or not, there's a dude on here that's a Metallurgist(sp) that might be able to provide more input. It certainly doesn't sound like yours has passed away yet

Unless your shaft (metal) is rusting or your graphite shaft has wear marks on it (near where the bag rubs), you don't have to worry about your shaft. Clubheads occasionally crack, but they don't "go dead."

And if 290 "consistently" is dead, I'll take a dead driver any time. Stick with what you have.

Why don't you consider getting vector fitted? I think it's around $50CDN but probably worth it. I think I will do it when last year's stuff goes down in price.

your the one who told me to get a new driver! lol...... There is more consistancy to the new drivers that dont have the grooves on the face. thats kinda what iam leany torward. Maybe I will get a cheap shaft and play around with this calloway or taylormade. I just

love the look of my titleist.

I don't know anything about the spring effect on the drivers you have, but I certainly don't think you're crazy for looking at new drivers. Sure you may hit it 290 straight down the fairway now, but what if you find a club you can hit 305, or 310 just as straight? The technology in the 975 is 7 or so years old. You can always go back to the 975 if you don't find anything else (it is a beautiful club). My advice is find some demo days and hit as many drivers as you can.
I know distance isn't everything, but it sure increases your birdie chances when your second shot into a par 5 is a 7 iron instead of a 3 iron.

    • Mostly pull cuts to slices. Some random pull draw/hooks pending of I hit the toe.
    • What's the rest of that story? Where was the ball going?
    • The criticisms are starting already 🤣 U.S. Open pro criticizes Shinnecock green conditions: 'Bumpy' After playing his first practice round at the 2026 U.S. Open, Michael Kim offered a less-than-glowing review of Shinnecock's "bumpy" greens.   The sand, I don't care about that. If the greens didn't come back as well for latest aerification, that would be a bit of a blunder on Shinnecock I think.
    • Well, if your frame of reference spins twice during the swing, then Bryson's ab/adduction is more like 780 degrees so there! (Yes I'm being silly, but not sure it's any sillier than what your pal Andy is doing...)
    • Update: Brandon Sorsby has decided to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft. He will not play for Texas Tech in the upcoming season.  From my perspective, I think he did the right thing. I hope he gets the correct help for his gambling addiction. I say the right thing, because I would be worried that the stress from all of this now and throughout the entire year would not be beneficial towards his mental health.  If an NFL team picks him up, then there really isn't any pressure for him to play immediately. He can work on himself and his game for the NFL.  From Texas Tech,  "Texas Tech will continue to provide the support and recovery resources Brendan requires on this journey. Furthermore, Texas Tech will not seek return of any amounts already paid to Brendan through his NIL agreements with the University," Campbell wrote. "We wish our best to Brendan, and we offer our prayers to him and his family as he chases his dreams at the next level. This has been an unbelievably painful experience for us all, but I know that his true, underlying character and lessons learned through this experience will ultimately bring him great success on the field of play and in life." Which, I also the right thing to do.
