Well my swing has official died on me. I can only hit a sand wedge or driver. Its the only two clubs that seem to obey what i want to do. The rest of the irons are gone. I have no clue if its going to go left, right, up, down, slice, push, pull, fade, draw, what ever. When you get to the top of the swing and in your head you know its not going to end up doing anything right, were you just want to drop the club right there. Honestly the feeling of hopelessness sucks. I have no clue how i kept my score to +9 for 9 holes, honestly with the way it is it should be higher. At least most people know what they are fighting, slice or hook. I am fighting the whole book right now.

Question, i am a strong guy, built pretty well. I am transitioning from a swing that was based on a known pulling of the ball were i would aim to the right and pull it back straight. It was pretty consistant, but it was a one shot swing, i want to become more of a better ball striker. So i have been working on alignment and weight transfer. My current irons are standard light weight shafts from Taylor made, they are supposedly stiff. I am wondering if i switch to a heavier shaft this would help me out. Because i am thinking that with my old swing i knew it was a pull so i didn't need to feel much of the club. But with a more neutral swing, working towards a more neutral swing, i think a heavier shaft might help me gain a better feel of the clubs. the strange thing is that i can hit my driver really well, i switched off from a 56 gram shaft to a 77 gram shaft.

Heavier iron shafts aren't really the answer man. This problem is about fundamentals. You gotta walk before you can run.

Yeah i know, but i played Ping eye 2's for years, with stock shafts. No way those suckers were light weight shafts when they were made in the 80's. I never had issues like i am now, so i am thinking that the lack of feel from the irons, really when the club gets up in the backswing i have no feeling of were the clubs at.

I think you need to take a look at your swing before you start blaming the equipment. I am not saying that your equipment isn't wrong for you, but I am going to guess that there's more going on with your swing than just your equipment.

Are you making this transition with a teacher or on your own? If it's on your own have you seen your swing on video? Your swing probably looks much different than it feels.

Well here is my progression,

My orginal swing in a nutshell... Aim 10-20 yards to the right depending on length of club, take the club flat, swing over the top a bit and pull it straight. I got really really good at timing this, enough to shoot even par a couple of times, but its inconsitant.

My new swing goals, get my swing more on plane and stop going over the top
Work on my weight transition because i don't get to the right side in the backswing and i stay on the right side in my downswing.
I flip the club with my hands which makes timing a pain, if i get fast duck hook, if i don't flip then push right, now a slice right since my swing deteriorated to a slight over the top swing

I been seeing a pro, he is trying to get me to stop using my hands as much in the swing and get more into just body rotation. I was doing awesome when he was at the range with me the one time. But then things just went to hell.

So right now i am going to work on getting more on plane, i will try to figure it out. I saw a good drill were you stick a dowel or golf shaft in the ground behind you that matches your swing plane. Then you take the club up that, i think i will do this since i take the club back to the inside and this will block it from happening.

I also found a good drill for weight shift, by the golf fix on the golf channel. You hold an shaft or club arcross your chest, crossing your arms. Take your stance and rotate like normal, the grip (or head) depending on orientation should be inline with the right foot. When i did this i found a stretch in my right hip as i rotated over more, i never get that in my normal swing.

But first on the check list is swing plane. I know my grip is pretty good, the V's look good, and the club feels good in the hands.
