I'm at about a 15 right now, but I've been as low as 12 and have days here and there where I hit my full swing irons like a mid-high single digit handicapper, though obviously I never put all aspects together consistently on the same day or I'd actually be a single digit.

I'm a grad student, so can't afford super expensive. I'm saving for a set of lessons this summer, maybe 4 at ~$100 (or less of course, if the teacher's good!) a lesson? I'm more of a one-planer, and many of my problems stem from being an ex-college baseball player: bad swings tend towards snap-rotation in the hips and not transferring my weight enough, a la the baseball swing. I have strong forearms from all those years at baseball, so tend to get my hands through so that usually leads to hooks or pulls with longer irons and a (too) strong fade with the wedges.

Any recs?

Glad to see you back around here.

My instructor is in El Segundo and is 5 for $200 ; I realize that's almost twice your requested price. I can give you his info if you want. I'll also be taking another lesson from him later this month, and I can let you know when I do, in case you want to observe and see if you like his teaching. I know he's not a single-system teacher: I've seen him teach such a variety of students, and I know he's not trying to mold me into anyone else.

Our university also has campus recreation golf lessons, but when I took them last (Spring 06), you were hitting old clubs from chipping mats, but standing on the field, so the ball was a bit above your feet. I don't know how they are now, but I can go scout out before too long and get back to you. They're more in your price range, something like $40/quarter, but I think they're also more for people looking to swing the first few times than for someone seeking individual attention.
