I switch to golf from bowling and found the idea that the accuracy and power of your shots come from a very relaxed swings, not the strength of your arms is true for both worlds.

Switching from bowling balls to golf balls could be the most major switch in term of ball sizes I think :D (except you want to go pro playing marbles)

i'd agree with you, i'm in a bowling league on thursdays and a golf league on tuesdays lol (bowling is over tonight thank god...31 week season) i've played golf, baseball, softball, football and bowling...i've played with two many diff shaped balls...no homo

I bowl a lot actually. I'm not good, scoring average of 165, but it's getting better. It is a very fun game, very similar to golf in that it is social, you can play with people of all ages and get to meet a lot of people.

Do you think that in bowling, averaging 210 on PBA patterns to be equivalent to scratch score in golf in term of player skill level? :)

I average ~185 normally and on good days I can average 210 (8 games set).

Also do you think getting a hole-in-one in golf to be harder, or easier than getting a perfect game in bowling??? The reason this isn't obvious is that on the hole-in-one shot, the player was NOT under any pressure get that hole-in-one but in bowling, getting that 12th strike puts a lot of pressure on the player.

Every winter- I stick with the shorter leagues (done in March) because there is nothing worse than a bowling league that ends in May or June when I should be on the course.

I have bowled my entire life...

I currently average 230 and 228 in two different leagues. Well, they both just ended... Golf is by far the harder sport... I am a "two-hander" (for the bowlers who know... alot like PBA pro Jason Belmonte)... I have shot 5 300's (perfect games) and I believe 6 800's sets. With the highest being a 857 without a 300. 299, 259, 299. I think if you can pick up a regular ball and you can throw it fairly straight... you can score a 150. However, not everyone can pick up a golf club and hit the ball and score a 100. Accuracy, timing and power are in both sports, but I think its in a different aspect. The 12th strike is very hard, but a hole in one is alot harder. I dont think the 12th strike is the hardest one. I believe the 2nd one in the 10th frame is alot harder than the last ball. Adreneline carries you on #12... nerves carry you on ball #11.

Did I read this right? Your averages are 7 & 5 pins higher than the best PBA pro's average for '09-'10 (223).

Its a big difference... I bowl on house oil patters... if I bowled on what the pro's bowl on... id average 190.

The pro's can miss by one board... they have to hit a target consistently. On a house shot, you can aim at an area! You dont have to hit your mark EXACTLY to shoot big in a casual league. Yea, it's crazy how different oil pattens affect the game. Bowling on house patterns is way different, and you get used to the pattern at your home alley. It's kind of like having a handicap playing your local muni frequently versus a guy on the tour playing at different courses set up to play outrageously hard (even though in bowling they only bowl on 5 pattens). I average ~170 but there are a few guys in my league that just dominate.

Exactly... with me throwing the ball two handed and being left handed, it makes a huge different. There isnt another lefty who plays the same line as me, therefore, my oil never really changes!

That's like the Holy Grail of league bowling! It sucks that me and another guy on my team basically throw the same ball, and just eat up the oil by our mark. We have to start making adjustments way before we should have to.

Yea, its always tougher for righties to score.

Even if I have 3 lefties on my pair, I still dont have to make many adjustments.. for the simple fact that I throw a complete different line.

I'm assuming you play fiarly deep then?

I've been bowling for 15 years and average about 215 in my regular house league. I averaged 201 last summer in one of those PBA experience leagues. The normal league house shot isn't even close to fresh oil, so we don't see many averages above 215-220

      It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…

      I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
