I see alot of people talk bad about taylor made, like they should spend more money on quality clubs rather than marketing, etc but yet like everyone in this forum has the taylor made r7 driver? why is that. Is this some great driver or something? i personally have never hit one.

I've never hit one, but from what I understand it was a really good driver, and that it still sees play on tour.

yea it seems everyone on here has a taylor made driver, i see alot of r7's but I also see the burners and others. i guess il have to check them out. Are their drivers the only thing taylor makes that is quality, because I have seen alot of negative stuff said about taylor made on here.

Ive only started to dislike taylormade after the your burner serious, after that driver, taylormade was making a new driver every 3 months and with very little improuvements.

But the R7 425 TP driver was one of the best I have ever hit.... Burner was also nice, but that R7 425 was amazing :P

Taylormade spends some serious money on marketing and advertising, but remember, that increases sales. More sales = more profits = more $$ to spend on product research and development. Taylormade makes some great woods and I happen to really like their putters. In fact, I'd love to trade in my Odyssey on a Taylormade Monte Carlo. I've never swung a Taylormade iron, but a friend plays the R7s and really likes them.

The SuperTri is great, much better than my driver, and I have hit it. I also like the Titleist 909DComp and 909D2, plus the Cobra S2.

I think what many of the forum members don't like is TaylorMade's corporate and marketing strategy, while they like the clubs. While the brand is associated with the club, they can be looked at as two different things.

Taylormade spends some serious money on marketing and advertising, but remember, that increases sales. More sales = more profits = more $$ to spend on product research and development.

While marketing should increase profits, this doesn't necessarily mean that they plow this money into R&D.; From a mechanical business standpoint, a project (e.g. R&D; department) needs to bring in more value then it costs in order to be a worthwhile. R&D; spending has a lot to do with

perceived benefit. There is a ton of pressure on the major golf companies to come up with some new perceived benefit in order to generate excitement for their newest models. If they can't communicate the value to the customers (either through ads, the product itself, or otherwise) then it doesn't bring them money. Likewise, a perceived value (real or imaginary) can be of value to a company. I'm not saying they don't produce quality clubs; and there are other consideration that go into R&D; spending and strategy decisions. It would also be a big mistake for a company to flat out lie to its customers. There are also a lot of companies that, by reasons of their own values and business purposes, back up their claims with a product that delivers. I'm also not saying that Taylormade isn't one of those companies. However, I believe there is more to think about than in the above quote.

I would say TM's drivers are so popular because they are high spin and have whippy shafts. 99 of 100 amatuer golfers have too little loft, and too stiff of a shaft on their driver. The TM stock shaft is like a wet noodle, and it spins tremendously. For the average person who doesn't hit the center of their driver face very often, the TM is going to be longer because it has enough spin to say in the air.

TM's tour issue heads, on the other hand, are quite the opposite. They have very low spin and best of all, are adjustable. So, for both crowds, they appeal to the averages.

I have TM R7 irons and love them. Really easy to hit - even the 3I. Mishits don't go too far off target. Nice and long too. I actually love my TM irons more than my TM woods. :)

The R7 425 TP is staying in my bag for a while. I've hit the R7 SuperTri, as well as several other current drivers on the market.

The shape, feel, setup and adjustability of the R7 TP suits my game and swing well. Most of all, I think the TP-specific Fujikura shaft that was made for the R7 425 is a very good shaft (w/Rombax REAX tech). I could gain 5-10 yards playing something else, but I really enjoy the consistency and accuracy of this club.

Consistency and accuracy is what it is all about. Distance is nice, but if you can't hit a fwy greens are going to be hard to hit in regulation.

Absolutely. Although good scores are ultimately predicted by short game, hitting fairways does a ton for my confidence. I love being able to work the ball off of the tee with the club, too!
