yesterday I played a course in Orlando Floriday (Hunter's Creek) and I played very well. It took me a few holes to adjust to the sand and the putting greens were VERY unreliable. On the front half I shot a 51 because I took an 8 on the first hole (no warm up, two bladed sand shots) and the 3rd hole I took a 7 (bad sand shot and 3 putts)

On the back I shot a 42 for a total of a 93. I felt that I was shooting excellent golf, and I put my round into OOBgolf and as a result my handicap went up from 17.6 to 18.3. It showed that my net par was 92.

I realize that it is because of no warm up, new course and taking a quadruple bogey and triple bogey on the first 3 holes. I didn't keep score so my partner didn't record putts, GIR's or fairways. However, I had very few 1 putts, and 4 pars on the back side, and at least 2 holes that I hit the green and proceeded to 3 putt.

I felt like I shot a great round, its just frustrating that my handicap went up as a result.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

You will often here pros in interviews say that their score doesn't reflect how well they were playing out there. Sometimes that's just the case, I have had a number of rounds where I felt that the way I played was not reflected in my score. On the other side of that, you can certainly have rounds where you felt like you didn't hit a fairway or a green and end up shooting a pretty good score. Unfortunately that's just the game of golf and it can certainly be frustrating.

YUP! I know how you feel. I went form a 9.8 to 15.6 in 6 months... I put my Driver and 3 Wood back into my bag. My Driver is erratic and I had to learn to really scramble and get creative while absorbing lost balls and penalty strokes.

Don't worry about your handicap too much - it depends so much on the course's slope rating. If you're like me at all, you could probably shoot the same score from the tips and the reds.

I know how you feel. Yesterday, my girl, buddy, and I played a round. I was nailing the driver (had only 1 drive that i was really mad about) and was striking my irons great. My approach shots (20-30 yd ones) and putting were horrid.

This how bad it was. I had 5 10 feet or less looks at birdie (3 on fringe so my GIR numbers were low)... 14 looks at par from 10 or less... How many birds, you ask? None. How many pars? 2, for a grand total of 101 with 46 putts.. I have had only 2 practice sessions this year and I put a majority of that time towards working on my irons. Its paid off for sure, but I know what I need to work on! I don't think I've ever been happier with a 100+ plus score in my life.

I had a round last weekend and scored 95 but felt like I should have been a lot lower. Thing is, I had one bad hole on 15 and took a triple bogey and then I doubled a par 3 on 17 after my tee shot left me with a pretty easy chip and putt. In reality, I did play pretty good, good enough to get under 90 but for these several moments I played just bad enough to negate a good score (for me anyway). That's how my past 3-4 rounds have been actually and I'm trying to not let it get me down.

One thing to remember about handicap is that is uses the best 10 of your last 20 scores. It is entirely possible that when you entered this score, it bumped out one of the 10 scores that it was using from the last 20.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I went out and played the same course yesterday and shot a 92 from the green tee box (middle of the 5) which adds a few hundred yards to the course. I posted that score and my handicap went back down to somewhere in the 17 range (don't remember the exact range)

I do feel that the course was pretty easy and wide open and if the green's were faster (VERY VERY slow) and/or I wasn't so afraid of hitting the ball the proper speed, I could have broken 90. I hit something like 8 greens but only had 2 pars. I didn't count putts, but when I hit a GIR, a 3 putt was the norm, NOT the exception.

either way, I know what I need to work on, and I am excited to get home (Chicago) and start taking lessons and work on putting / chipping to improve and hopefully break 90 this year. I am really close, 3 rounds in a row posted in the low 90's (a pair of 92's and a 93)
