So I want a new 3 wood. My Nike sucks, and I want to replace it. I don't have much money, so I have a few options.
  • I found a used Mizuno F-50 for $35
  • A used Titleist 909F2 for $150
  • Or wait and later get a Titleist 909F2, a Mizuno MP Titanium, a Taylor Made R9, or a Cobra S2

The MP Titanium is by far and away my favorite, with the R9 second, but for $35 I am leaning towards the F-50. What do you guys think? The 909F2 is also very nice, but $150 is a little steep.

In my bag:

Driver: Titleist TSi3 | 15º 3-Wood: Ping G410 | 17º 2-Hybrid: Ping G410 | 19º 3-Iron: TaylorMade GAPR Lo |4-PW Irons: Nike VR Pro Combo | 54º SW, 60º LW: Titleist Vokey SM8 | Putter: Odyssey Toulon Las Vegas H7

I will speak on behalf of the 909f2. I have the 15.5 model with a reg flex blueboard shaft. The club is very nice and has a great feel. It has a smaller head than lots of other 3 woods out there but this doesnt affect me at all. Contrary to what people think it is very forgiving imo. Not having a closed club face is a big plus for me too as I hook the ball on my bad shots.

In my cart bag, Driver 909D Comp,Fairway Diablo Edge 3W, Hybrid TWS 18 &23, Irons Diablo Edge 5-Pw, Wedges X Tour vintage 50 X Forged chrome 56 and 64,Putter Rossa Daytona 1, Ball Z Star yellow or a Tri Speed

Last year's Wilson Staff Fybrid 3 wood is awesome, and a steal at around $50 new. Easy to hit off the deck or the tee, and pretty low risk if you don't like it.

So I went to the store today to test them all out. I found out that that 909f2 is a R flex VooDoo shaft, so I didn't get it. What I did find though is a used 909f2 with an S flex Diamana for $170, still a good price, but it was in bad shape so if I am going to get a 909f2 it would be a new one, but they didn't have a new 909f2 with a S flex VooDoo, so I came up empty handed. I have to say though, they do feel very good, and the face seemed really hot. Forgiveness is not a huge issue for me, I hit it pretty consistently in the middle of the face, and when I don't I expect to have a ways to go to the pin.

I would love to get a 906f2, but I can't seem to find them online without going to eBay route. I like them more than the 909f2 actually.

I actually have a brand new Wilson FyBrid 19.5 degree hybrid from last year that I won in a contest but have never used. I might be able to swap it out for a 3 wood...

I also today hit that Mizuno F-50 and didn't like it, so that's off the list. It is really old too, liek 6 or 7 years, so I don't know how much life is in it anyway. The Cobra S2 is off the table too. I like the driver but not the 3 Wood. The Mizuno MP Titanium was by far and away my favorite, but it is like $270, so I either need to strike oil in my backyard or wait for the price to come down, but that doesn't seem likely because Mizuno doesn't release clubs all that often. The R9 was good too. Solid, not flashy, but a little pricey and I don't really need the FCT thing. If I could find a Taylor Made TP model fairway wood from like 5 years ago I would buy it in a heartbeat, I love the weight system and those were just great woods, but I have never found one. So the Nike lives another day.... And everyone, keep the opinions coming!

Don't be afraid to go a little older. The 200 Steel series 4 wood in my bag is almost 10 years old and everyone that hits it wants to buy it from me. I was not too surprised when they showed up in the last edition of Golf Digest as being a club that was far ahead of it's time and is still relevent by today's standards. I've never hit the 3 wood in this series, but if it's anything close to my 4, it would make a really good addition your bag. Plus, at the low prices they sell for nowadays, you wouldn't be out much if you didn't like it.

Long story short: I'm 17, don't have a credit card, don't trust eBay with my debit card, and don't want to ask my parents (both of whom have never used eBay) to use their credit card.

I just like others better. The Dymo is decent in ever facet, but doesn't really perform great anywhere. The ones that I have been looking at all are longer and better feeling than the Dymo. Plus I have always felt it a little awkward to hit it off of the deck.

I wouldn't be against going older if the club was in good condition. I have never had a 3 wood (or hybrid for that matter, speaking of which all of the 3 woods that I have mentioned I like the hybrid versions too) that I really liked, and I wouldn't want to have that but only for a year while it wears out, which would happen if it was old and too beat up.
