one group of foursome we ante up $50 bucks a piece. $20 front and $20 back. $10 goes towards the KP pot which someone buys a box of proVX. winner of KP wins a sleeve. you can win a box with a 10$ investment....kinda of gives it a tourney experience.

I used to wager quite a bit as a kid. I almost never had it all, but I was a kid and I was playing country club types, so I never lost or had to pay out.

Was the best summer job I ever had. Earned quite a bit more than minimum wage.

These days I try to talk people into betting, but I don't have a regular foursome set up yet so I'm not sure how they play and they're not so sure of me. So, no deals.

What's a KP?

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I have a regular group of 8-12 guys who play together every weekend. The highest handicap in our group is a 6. In the peak of the summer it is not uncommon for us to play 3 days together in 1 week. I usually have an individual bet with each other guy for 4 $1's or 4 $2's. Occasional it's 4 $5's. Then we have lots of two man bets. Jim & I will take on Tom & Al and so on for 4 $1's or 4 $2's. We also have "big team" bets which are either 3 or 4 player teams depending on how many players. Everyone throws in $5 for skins ($10 on big events). We have sometimes this thing called a rabbit which is where you get a "leg" of the rabbit if you beat everyone. You keep the leg if no one beats you on the next hole. If you can have a leg or two of the rabbit after 9 holes you win $2 from everyone. If you win the rabbit on both sides you get $5.

It takes us a good 45min-1H to work our bets out after we finish and it's quite fun. If you have a few birdies you can win $40-50 bucks. Last month I had the best round by far and won over $100 bucks but that is very unusual. Usually you win or lose 10-15 bucks. You don't want to be the only play who plays terrible or you lose a bunch of $$.

I'll be playing a few of these games TODAY with a 4some.

Damn, that sounds like fun!

These days I don't play for much, just $1 skins with birdies and KPs. My golf nemesis and I sometimes play $3 points. By the way, does anyone know why it's KP and not CP? (iacas, KP is closest to the pin) I've always wondered and noone has an answer for me!? Back when I was living in Japan we used to play stroke play for 1000yen a stroke (roughly $10) and we'd keep a running total until payday. The guy who was the stick was pulling in an extra $500 or so a month. I usually came in second. My best month I made $500. We also played a game called Las Vegas, which is somewhat similar to Wolf but relies more on strokes rather than overall team score. On one hole my partner and I won $120 each. It's a pain in the ass being scratch and playing skins though.

That's a darn good question, and this is the closest answer I've been able to find: http://golf.about.com/cs/historyofgolf/a/kp.htm Amongst the club we bet in much the same way you do, freddieman. It's an unwritten rule that the winner ends up spending most of the winnings on the others either with dinner afterwards or drinks with a little more to line their pocket. With my friends though, we usually wager to keep things competitive durign the round, they're just for bragging rights though, no one ends up taking any money at the end of the day.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Eh. He broke ONE of Tiger's records. Youngest to be ranked #1 in AJGA. It didn't help that Tiger's birthday is in late December, or that Tiger didn't play many AJGA events before he was 15. • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
