I just read one of their proposed possible solutions for the Gulf oil leak is to shoot golf balls into the pipe. Not making this up.

So what will their choice be? 2-piece distance ball? ProV1--BP can afford them)?

I'm no oil engineer, but I think if they set up an island green just past the pipe I could fill up the leak in 2-3 rounds ;)

(trying to make light of a bad situation...the leak that is, not my game, which no crew of engineers can fix at this point)

Not donating my cutties! I keep a plastic flower pot filled with cut, dented, driving range and old balls that I use for practice. I can provide any number of old tires, though, they pay the shipping!

Seriously, when I was a lad back in the 60s, an older guy who was involved in drilling brought over some hard rubber balls between a marble and a golf ball in size, which he said were used to plug holes in drilling pipe. Still have a couple somewhere. They were quite hard and had no bounce.

Sometimes, I wish I had gone ahead and majored in geology, maybe with a petroleum emphasis. Sigh, too old to change careers now.

Reminds me of the "Seinfeld" episode where Kramer was hitting balls from the beach into the ocean... A whale happened to wash ashore and, one thing leading to another, George ended up plucking a Titleist from the beast's blowhole.

I'd say that scenario was more likely than BP plugging the gusher with golf balls and other trash. Sad, sad, sad.

The one where Kramer gets upset about his friend picking up and cleaning his ball in the fairway and forcing him to take a stroke penalty, thus leading the man to murder was on yesterday lol. Love seinfeld.

Yup, they're true classics! I was just watching the one where George signs-up to become a hand model. Hilarious!

My apologies, drglew, didn't mean to turn this into a Seinfeld thread.

Saw the Keith Hernandez "magic loogy" episode the other day... Hi-larious.

Cheers,

Every time I hit my ball onto a "gravelly road" I think of that episode!
