Irons for mid-cappers ...?

I'm curious what folks would pick as their favorite iron set for a mid-handicap golfer? Now my ball striking isn't horrible and it's my short game that usually sinks my score.

I'm currently playing Wilson CI7's and I really like them, but the added shaft length and the juiced lofts detract a bit from their playability for me.

So which irons have a bit of forgiveness, aren't shovels, are actually standard length (as in 37.75" for a 5 iron) and haven't strengthened the lofts to make us believe we can hit a 7 iron 200 yards?

As an aside ... I have a set of Hogan blades and a set of the original Apex Edge irons. I might just combine the sets; say the 3,4,5 of the Edges and the 6-E of the blades and see how that works.

Hogan apex plus irons are somewhat forgiving. Callaway has some very good offerings. The TM R7 and R7 draws are very appealing and forgiving but they have the 'strong lofts".


For me I've got a set of Nike Slingshots (very forgiving but a bit bulky in appearance), A set of Hogan CFT irons ( excellent value and feel), a set of Titleist CB 680 (forgiving and sweet feeling and excellent looks..can be had for apprx $200 ebay...be sure not the CB.(dot) 680 which have a smaller head). Finally I've used a set of Callaway X-14--old stand by with excellent forgiveness. X-16 are go candidates too.

If I were to choose on looks, feel, and playability the CB 680 are the overall winner.

The mixed plan sounds good. Or perhaps drop the 3+4 for some hybrids.

Callaway X-22's are a great Mid GI club.

x-20 or even x-18r. not that much different from the x-20s and cheaper. if u dont mind a bit of bulk, go for g15 like KJ choi.

titliest AP1's or AP2's would be your best bet.
they have normal lofts.

AP1 is slightly more forgiving than the AP2
