Also, does anyone know of a practice area that has grass ranges in the LA area and a decent chipping/pitching area?

I usually practice/play at Altadena GC, which isn't too far, depending on what part of LA you're in. It's got a reasonable putting green most of the time, a pretty nice all-grass range (except during the winter or very wet conditions, when they occasionally pull out the mats), and a usable chipping area, although the "green" is not a proper putting surface, just some slightly smoother than fairway grass with a couple flags in it. There's also Eaton Canyon, run by the same group with similar facilities, a little farther to the east.
