Nephew wants to play

Question...My nephew wants to start playing and wants to buy his own clubs. He has never played before but is a great athelete. 6ft and 180 lbs at 17 but will grow much more soon. His dad is 6'4" and 280. I'm looking for suggestions on the type of clubs he should use. He found a complete set of Walter Hagen at Dick's for 199. He is scheduled for some lessons.

a starter set and lessons is the way to go. when he gets his swing worked out and gets settled in, then he may look into a club fitting and some premium equipment. Sounds like he is on the right track.

have him go into any golf store and they will help recommend a great starter club to fit his skill level, height and shaft flex, make sure that you go in with a budget in mind.

Warning, skip eBay on this one.

A golf shop can give your nephew a basic static fitting - make sure the shafts aren't too short or long, and the lie isn't too upright or too flat. Golf is challenging enough without having to use clubs that don't fit your body.

Also, you run the risk of getting a driver or fairway wood with the internal struts cracked because someone pounded rock-hard range balls for two years.

He went to Dick's and bought a full set of walter Hagen clubs.The pro at the store helped him andchecked the fit for him and made some minor adjustments. We're going to play after church tomorrow.
