Ping S58 Irons

I am really interested in getting the new Ping S58 irons but the shop that i work in hasn't gotten them yet and i was wondering if anyone has hit them and what they thought of them. A comparison to another iron would also be helpful if possible.

I play the S59's and they are great clubs for people with low handicaps and scratch golfers,for you they might not be the right clubs.
how about the Ping i5's?

No i am looking for the new S58 they aren't as "player" as the 59's but thanks

I also play the S59's and while I agree, they're more geared towards low-mid handicaps, I think someone with a 9-11 handicap could actually do quite well with them. Yes, they're "blades" but they're very forgiving, especially since they aren't "big, honkin' things."

From what I've read, the S58's are supposed to be more playable, so I would think you'd be very happy with them. Just make sure you get fitted from a PING dealer first.

I have hit the new S58's and they are very nice. As far as them being less "player" I think you are wrong. From what I was told by the reps and from what I saw they are even more geared toward the better player than the S59's. They look even more like blades and have slightly less offset. The longer irons were designed to have higher trajectory, and the shorter irons were designed to have a more boring trajectory. They did that by moving some weight around not by making them any more "forgiving". I would compare them to my Nike Pro combos, or really any player iron besides a blade. I really liked them and are considering ordering them, but for people with higher handicaps I would definately steer them towards another model like the i5, G5, or the new rapture irons.

by being less geared toward player... i meant that they are a little more forgiving than the s59 and that they didn't have a blade like style to them... but thanks

They do have a blade like style to them even more so than their predecessors the S59. They are not more forgiving than the S59 other than they are redisigned with different trajactories in mind. Remember, the S59 did not go over well, especially with the tour guys. These clubs are in no way redesigned with the higher handicapper in mind, these were redesigned to perform better in the hands of the professional and accomplished amateur. Ping already has several models for the higher handicapper or golfer looking for forgiveness. Why would they redesign their "players" irons to compete with them. The entire reason for the S59 and S58 was to try and entice players looking for more workablility than their other Ping iron lines provided.
