So right now it feels like I can swing in two distinctly different ways through the impact area with reasonably good results from either. In the first, the hands seem to travel through impact on the arc and fairly coincidentally with the clubhead, and the feel is I'm directing the shape of the shot with my right wrist/forearm. In the second, I feel like I'm tugging hard on the rope from the top of the backswing and the hands and butt of the club are going through the impact area way ahead of the club head and continuing out ahead toward the target. The illusion is almost that the wrists stay hinged right through impact and beyond and there's no sense at all of trying to guide the clubhead through the ball.

Feel like I get more "zip" with the latter, but less consistent contact, so distance is about the same. I can work the ball better with the former. Have heard people talk about "natural" versus "artificial" lag -- wondering if that's what I'm perceiving? Probably need to take some face-on video and see what the real difference is in impact position. Bet it's nowhere near as big as it feels.

Stretch.

I have that same feeling. At my range session this morning I was getting the latter feeling - I was concentrating big time on keeping a hinged wrist through impact. It worked, got great trajectory and distance but also lost some control.
