I read in the NYT Sebonack is the first US club to use a fleet of solar powered golf carts. I would have thought some clubs used at least a couple for test purposes, especially in Europe? Also, at 3K, that's about the same as a gas powered cart, no?

I'm surprised they haven't caught on more in those golfing communities where people have private carts and such. I think most of them are battery powered so you're just recharging them at night, not wasting gas, but solar would be pretty cool.

Our club is looking at solar powered carts. We have a very hilly course and these could keep them running longer than 1.5 rounds before dying. They aren't intended to take the place of batteries but rather charge them up a little during the round.

They wouldn't work very well in Europe, they don't have enough sunshine to charge them, especially in the UK, they might get enough in Spain and Portugal and around that region, but certainly not the UK, IMHO anyway, I lived there for 40yrs.

Fortunately it doesn't take a huge amount of direct "sun"light to get most solar cells active, so I think during the summer, even in the UK on a cloudy day, you might still be ok. I was at a club in Portugal a few months back and all of their marshals' cart were solar powered. Maybe they just don't produce enough juice to keep running all day, round after round?

They've got to be the future though, one way or the other.
