Anyone playing a Callaway FT IQ? I have been considering getting one now that the price is half of what it used to be. My only hold up is that I've heard some say its a good bit shorter than other drivers. Anyone know if thats true? Also I can get either the Imix or regular version. I know very little about the Imix.
thanks

I hit mine avg 250...stock fubuki stiff...i like it, still able to work it if you want to, it's a bit more likely to hit a draw...perhaps the tour head would be better for the fade if you like to play it.

In my Titleist 2014 9.5" Staff bag:

Cobra Bio+ 9* Matrix White Tie X  - Taylormade SLDR 15* ATTAS 80X - Titleist 910H 19* ATTAS 100X - Taylormade '13 TP MC 4-PW PX 6.5 - Vokey TVD M 50* DG TI X100 - Vokey SM4 55 / Vokey SM5 60* DG TI S400 - Piretti Potenza II 365g

I love my FT-IQ. It is for sure the best driver I've played even with the weird shape. I was able to get a really consistent and reliable ball flight after just a few rounds and the distance was well beyond my previous FT-5. I have a FT-IZ now, but I've played so little with it that I'm not sure how much, if any improvement it is over the IQ. I would definitely recommend the I-Mix option if you can swing it. The availability of shafts is really growing on places like eBay now that the system is a few years old and even places like Rock Bottom Golf are getting new ones from time to time. For the price they are right now, it's a great purchase in my opinion.

 10.5* 910D2 w/ Matrix Ozik X-Con 6

 AP1 Irons 4-PW   Spin Milled 48*, 53*, 58*    California Del Mer

I had the FTI for a year and upgraded to the FTIQ a short time ago. I did get the imix shaft but knew very lttle about them. I ended up with a Fugikura shaft and it is working well. I plan on sticking with it.

I picked up the FTIQ Tour version last fall and played it for a few months. I loved it. Great driver. Distance was good (equal to other drivers I had hit), very forgiving and very straight. What I liked most about it what the Fubuki shaft. I loved the trajectory it gave.

I trade mine in, though. The stiff shaft was just a little too stiff for my swing speed. After trying new drivers, the R9 gave me the best numbers, so I went with that. I was tempted, though, to get another FTIQ with a Regular flex Fubuki shaft.

What I Play:

Driver: R9 460
4 Wood: G15

Hy: Callaway FT 3Hy

Irons: AP1 4-PW

Wedges: Vokey 52* & 60*, Mizuno MP-T 10 58*

Putter: Newport Studio Select 2.7

Ball: Nike One Vapor

i would definitely recommend this driver if you are looking for a nice long and straight shot. It helped me eliminate severe slices. The club has a great sound at impact. Combined with my Fubuki tour i-mix shaft, i couldn't have asked for a better driver.

note: i was initially going to get the ft-9, but its more of a players club (i.e. working the ball with draws or fades) but lets be real, for most people, all we want is a club that gets us in the fairway

Driver: Ping G15 |9*| UST Mamiya Proforce AXIVCore Tour Red 69 stiff shaft
Wood: Callaway Big Bertha Diable Neutral |15*| stiff stock shaft
Hybrid: Nickent 3DX DC |19*, 23*| UST Proforce V2 stiff shaft
Irons: Adams Idea Pro Forged Stiff |5-PW| True Temper Black Gold stiff shaft
Wedges: Nike SV...

Thanks for the help I think I'll call today and see if they do custom shaft fitting there. If so think I may get it. I've heard that a shaft fitted properly makes a huge difference.

hard to suggest what shaft is best for you. for me, i had two goals. - very low spin and mid-high launch, which is why i chose the Fubuki tour. Plus, mickelson uses it

i wasn't able to try out the other shafts so i just did some research on each one to understand its playing characteristics. wish you luck

I suggest giving it a demo beforehand. I really hated the sound/feel of that club.

i would go with the ft-9 instead. better distance off the tee and you can work the ball. plus it does go a lot straighter than what people make it seem

    • Day 203 - 2025-04-21 Did a little work on partial wedges. I was getting a bit too far around… more up and out. Which seems contradictory to the dumb little cuts I was hitting, but it's not. 😄
    • Played Saturday and Sunday, both courses I had played just once before - Mangawhai and Waipu. A pair of 82s on fairly easy and short tracks. A lot of solid golf, but five DBs over 36 holes is enough to ruin a fairly clean card. PW and in needs work, especially on soft/damp turf.
    • Has to be the first one. As others have noted, most mistakes are capable of being fixed the next time round. At least you know you have enough good stuff in the locker to compete. And I guess you hope the scar tissue doesn't play too big a role next time you're in contention.
    • Just had a fantastic day of golf this morning. Played a local 72 par course that is somewhat challenging, not super hard but not easy. I had never been able to shoot anything better than a 96 on it. And hole 15 really gets to my head, literally every single time I get to hole 15 I mess up something terrible and end up with nothing better than a triple bogey or I just pick up my ball and walk to the next hole. Today I shot an 86, par'ed the 15th and had a total of 8 pars today. +9 on the front nine and and +5 on the back nine. Most of the pars were made with some very fortunate 1 putts. Overall felt great!
