Divots

Well unless i am forced to shape a shot, i just try to hit a stock shot. The issue is now that my stock shot consists of the following

With my irons
Push slice, Pull Slice, Pull, Push, Fade, Straight, Topped, Shank

With my driver
Push Slice, Pull Slice, Pull, Push, Fade, Straight,

Thats pretty much what i can hang my hat on when i stand up to the ball... Its not pretty... I use to be able to hit a 5 yard draw 80% of the time, push 15% of the time, Hook 5% of the time, a bit more consistant.

I just realized this past weekend that my divots are totally different, i thought there might be some meaning in this.

Granted this will probably open up a whole can o' beans by asking this, but as a beginner, I'm trying to get my divots more consistent (i.e. going from a total sweeper to actually taking a divot), but not sure how exactly to get there. Without looking at my swing, I'm sure there are dozens of things to address, from addressing at stance, to angle of swing, etc. I noticed BigMikey talking about setting up lower at address (or more specifically, setting up higher on the practice), but is there a thing or two that any of you tend to keep in mind at address or swing to get the proper angle, especially when you were beginning?
