There is a ton of discussion here about player's cavity's vs blades, with the majority of the tendency toward cavity backs for mid-cappers like myself with the biggest argument thrown around being that even many tour pros are using versions of cb's now. well, some very specific points were made by a couple folks here that made sense, and I started reading, and a lot of research points to blades being much more precise for someone who can somewhat regularly strike them well, and much more specific in the teaching process because of their undeniable tell of mishits.

Soooo...

I went back to my TM musclebacks a couple of weeks ago - pulled em out of the spare bag, re-gripped em, and started practicing. they tell me exactly where and how I hit the bacll, feel perfect when struck well, and best of all, go EXACTLY where I tell them to...

Saturday morning I played Woodbridge and struck some of the best iron shots Ive played in years, sticking 9 approach shots inside of 10 feet, and 3 inside of 6 inches - this included a 9 iron that was kept from a HIO by tapping the pin, and a hole-out from 77 yds.

I am re-sold on blades for anyone who is willing to practice to go low, if nothing else as a very specific teaching aid. for those of you that have switched to blades, did it make you better or worse? how many of you found the same experience as me?

What I play:

R7 Limited, UST V2
Burner 3W, Rifle ULF
Tour 3H-4H, Rifle ULF RAC MB 5-PW, Rifle ULF 54*, 58*, TP Smoke wedges Black Pearl Studio Select 1.5 ProV1 or TP Red LDP

1.) that's for sure

2.) I can tell when I mishit my high MOI driver too. The sound, ball flight, and the feel in my hands is different all over the face. If I'm really trying to nail it down, it's time for impact tape - I use the little Nike golf stickers. 3.) If you can play, you can play with any club that fits your swing.

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

I'm considering switching the other way... (at least in the long irons) and it doesn't matter what clubs you hit, I can tell you by my finish if I've hit a good shot or not.

I've gone low using MB Irons and GI clubs... it has very little to do with the clubs.

Cheers, Allan

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
