I got a new set of Callaway diablo edge irons a month ago... I got 'em fresh off the shelf... I know i should've gotten the fitted, but i was too impatient. If i bring em to golfsmith can i get them fitted after i've already used them? around how much would that cost?

patience is a virtue, and can save you a lot of money and heartache

the way I see it, there are 2 senarios... 1) you bought the exact correct clublenth, lie angle, swing flex, and shaft type for your swing 2) if any of the above are incorrect, or even a combination of the above, it will cost at least a couple hundred dollars to get them fixed on that note... just go out and play them... for most people, they can't tell the difference anyways

Cheers, Allan

Lie angle can be changed very cheap, a $2* per club at worst. Length can be cut down easilly for the price of a new grip. Extensions can also be added for the price of a grip + about $3-$5 per club. If the flex is wrong, then you'll need to buy new shafts and pay to have them reshafted, which isn't cheap no matter how you look at it. So long as the lie angle is good, and the length is near enough, you should be OK. Lie angle is really the most important thing if the length is nearly correct, and the flex is nearly correct.

(* Florida prices. Many shops around here do lie angle and cut down clubs for free. Your local prices may vary.)

My pro shop is a rip-off.

6 euro for a lie angle change (7 dollars) 10 euro for length (12 dollars, but you get a new grip)

My local store charges $5/club to adjust lie. They will cut down the club and put the grip on for the cost of the grip.

If you ended up with the wrong shaft for you, it might be best just to quick-trade what you have and order a set with proper shafts from Callaway. Your shop should help you on this.

    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
