There is not really any limit of the golf balls you can have in your bag. But if you run out of balls in b/w, you can not turn in a score card, and you are disqualified. LOL

Correct on the first count, probably not on the second. The "one-ball rule" (that you use a single make and model ball for the entire round) is a condition of competition that's used at US (and perhaps elsewhere) professional events, and perhaps at some high-level tournaments, but is not a general Rule of Golf. If the OP's handicap is even approximately correct and this is a "small tournament," my guess would be that there's no such condition in place.

True, one ball rule probably wouldn't be in place, but if there was even a doubt, having all the same ball would take care of any potential problems. e.g. Carry all you want and as long as they are the same, you will never get into trouble no matter what. Just trying to make it easy on him.

And on the Tin Cup reference, it could be that when Romeo mentions that is the last ball in the bag, he knew the playing partner didn't have the same type of ball. That is how I always took that line. You can borrow balls, but it would have to have been the same ball he was playing.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

I will have to see if I can find a link to that event with the measurement device rule, it was one of the Wisconsin amateur events, possibly a WSGA one. Finding that did confirm to me to know the specific event rules so I never get DQ'd due to an obscure technicality should I ever have the opportunity to qualify for and enter a tournament.

Edit: found it

It would probably be to everyone's benefit to read this rule if they plan to enter any events. I don't know where the WSGA got the wording but I can easily see other events adopting similar wording.

I'd cut and paste it in here but that is painfull with a phone browser.

I caddied doubles in the 70's with the old leather bags but the heaviest thing was the damn balls. If you had some tool carrying 30 balls when we were up ahead watching the drives we'd bury 10 of em in a bunker. Of course go back and get them in the afternoon.

From my read, the OP is attending Chamber tournement. My guess is this a fun scramble with very few rules, you can probably buy muligans before you go out. Not to worry on the ball count.

In essence that Local Rule says that a distance measuring device capable of measuring other things apart from distance is not allowed

to be used and a player using that kind of a device is disqualified, even if those illegal properties are not in use. It does NOT say that a player is DQ'd for carrying such a device.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
