Pretty excited, the revision date is today and I have never had an index before. I thought I was around 12 or 13 however I found out that my index is 7.6 which makes me really excited and of course want to get inside 6 by years end. This is my first time in the last 4 or 5 years that Ive played more than 2 rounds of golf a year so im pretty excited.

Just needed a place to share my excitement... thanks guys now I just have to keep it low.

Good job! What made you think you would be a 12/13?

i wasnt sure about the system and I shot normally shot between +10 and +13 for 18 holes... I just thought the index was an average of strokes above par.... I did shot 2 rounds under 80 though and have shot Even or under par 3 times on 9 hole practice rounds...but i dont count those since its on an short course...

Youll be wanting that 12 handicap again when you suddenly have to give the guys you play with 3 or 4 strokes..lol.

Just received my first GHIN of the year and it came out a 4.0 based on a few very good rounds at the end of last year (I really "feel" like I am playing to about a 6 or 7)......I switched men's club this year and had to go back and reinsert as much as I could remember from last year (which was like 5 rounds).....I have played 7 rounds this year and have broken 80 only 4 of those 7.........I am playing in a tournament this weekend and just feel like I am going to get killed playing at a 4 handicap....oh well, a couple of poor tournament rounds should get me trending updward...LOL...

yeah I am a little disappointed about that :). Im gonna play in a nature valley amateur tournament in september and now il be a different flight... should be interesting; however id rather be last in a good flight than winning while sandbagging

If you play in any club tournaments, you'll wish you had a 10-13 hcp because those are the guys that are going to kill you out there. Trust me, I know. Not saying you should "bag", just stating a fact. I have to give up 11 strokes to a guy in my next match play round who's a 17 and shot 81 in a tournament this year. I'm feeling good about that. But congrats anyway. I remember when I got under 6 for the first time. It's an accomplishment.

10-13 seems to be the sweet spot for tourney sandbaggers. It's high enough where they'll still get a decent amount of stokes, but low enough that they can still play a round in the 70's and excuse it as just a really good day.

I am not sure if that is accurate. When I was about 12 HC or so, I begin to have a lot more score fluctuation. Sometimes I would shoot in the mid to low 80's with rare sub 80's, but then will have many in the 90's. Once I got to below 10 HC, my score fluctuation got less drastic.

I think the reason 10-13 HC players are dangerous in a match play is that they are capable of shooting a good score at any given day, unlike much higher HC players. In general 10-13 HC players have the game to play with just about anyone. It is their unpredictability of which game they bring, that makes them dangerous. Just my 2 cents.

I think you actually just supported the point double_j was trying to make...........i.e., a lot of the sandbaggers out there "carry" handicaps in the 10-13 range.....I personally think he is right, but may be a little high...I would say 8.5-12 range...an 9 handicap can shoot 77 and claim a great day....

I think this post is on the money. I'm sitting at an 11.4 right now and on any given day I can shoot between 78 and 93. Of my top 20 scores right now, 10 are 90+, 9 in the 80s and a 79.

I agree with this. I play in a 15-man league. Last year, our league champion had 11 index and the runner up had 13.

My HI was 13.1 before the last week's tournament. I shot 78 for a net score of 63. Broke the league net score record by 3 shots. I feel sorry for a 4 capper who shot 70 for a net score of 65. As a 12 capper now, I can shoot anywhere between 76 and 100.

bshack, congrats.

Word of warning to you though, if this is your 1st index and you <10 posted scores, it may fluctuate wildly if you have a bad round, as every score will count. Once you build up a little "buffer" then the GHIN system will only count the best 10 out of your last 20 scores so it probably won't fluctuate quite as drastically...

I agree.

I'll go out one day and put up an 80 hitting 12/18 fairways and then come out the next day and shoot a 93 and only hit 3/18 fairways. When I'm on I can really light it up. When I'm not, it's usually a long day on the golf course.

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

Or it could be what a 10 is...I am a 10 at my course and have had 2- 79's, 1-80 and 2-81 this season....to go along with a couple rounds in the 90's and several in the 88 89 range. 10 HC golfers are all over the map. Most low guys i know (under 6) would rather play a 17 then a 10. If the 10 has good day it is lights out.

if he breaks 80 every other round (depending on the course rating and slope and of course the par for the course) he is almost certainly between a 4 and 6
