It is called Crooked Creek Golf Links, in Woodlawn, IL. I have been made fun of for this being my home course. I agree with them, it's terrible.

-There are some cartpaths, haha. where there are cartpaths they are gravel with a lot of potholes(very bumpy)
-There are no fairways. They don't even have real golf course grass. Its the same stuff in my backyard.
-On the teebox, you're lucky to find a good spot to tee it up. There is barely any good grass here, because of poor maintence.
-The greens are probably the worst i have ever seen. Usually they are really fast, and they won't hold at all. There is one green that i have never had a green in regulation on because of a rediculously sloped green. The worst part about it is that they are unconsistent. One hole will be fast while the next is slow.
-There is no driving range. (man i want a driving range so bad)
-the clubhouse is smaller than my dad's garage.haha

Wow. This made me realize its worse than i thought. I think i play on the worst course of all.

Do you play on a worse course? if so i'm sorry

West Africa - played a couple courses that were almost all dirt. The greens were made of sand, and were oiled and rolled every day. If you touched your clothes after handling the ball you would ruin them.

Guantanamo Bay - Cuba You had to carry a small matt around the course to hit off of. Hitting the fairways was often detrimental to you scores because the ball would richochet off of stones. Castro had turned the water off to the base years and years ago. The purists on here would have a shit fit.

Alexandria Egypt - The city would flush sewage through the course for irrigation twice a day. What a stink! They said it was grey water, but you could see feces floating in it.

JWL1957's Egypt course is the winner.

The course I play regularly was very similar to your description 2 years ago. It is a historic course founded in 1959. When the civil rights movement really took hold and black players were allowed on white courses, the membership fell off, and the course went into a long state of disrepair. Recently, it was purchased by a local college, and they are making headway on the whole course. The first three greens are horrendous, more dirt and weed than green. The final six greens (9-hole course) are near perfect, though inconsistent as far as speed is concerned. They have started mowing the fairways to create an actual fairway, and rough. They do have a driving range, but it is short at around 225yds in length. The range runs adjacent to the 9th hole, and the back buts up to the 6th. If they could afford a net that would not be a problem, but with no net finding your ball can be difficult on those two holes.

So, now that I have really talked the course down, I have to tell you I absolutely love playing there. All of the staff is extremely pleasant, and they are working very hard to rebuild everything into a nice course. I tell folks all the time that I play there and ask that they give it a shot as well. The more tee times they can fill the sooner they will be able to get the place back in shape. If you are local to the Raleigh, NC area take a day and go check out Meadowbrook Country Club in Garner. Weekend greens fees are $25 for 18 with a cart.

To the mods: If the above is viewed as an advertisement I apologize. Please feel free to remove or edit my post as necessary. I have no affiliation with the course other than as a player.

Haha.. There's a chip-putt par 3 course I played at... Tee boxes are actually in decent shape, but there are at least a couple greens (normally pretty fast as well) that are in bad shape with dirt showing through in patches, especially after rain. Only $7/18 holes, so it's not bad for a beginner like me, plus it helps me get my confidence in my short game up.

Can't say that its worse, but I sometimes play a par 3 by my mother-in-laws that is pretty bad. They never move the tee boxes, so you are usually hitting off dirt. Greens are so bad I never putt (really just play to practice my irons). Also has 2 huge oak trees down that were struck by lightning, been there for 2 years now. You have to drive around them! The owner has a pretty decent clubhouse/restaurant. Guess what he cares more about?

WOW....small world. I have played Meadowbrook a few times. When I still owned my Semi, I would drop my trailer at the Lowes on Cleveland Crossing Drive and bobtail over to the course. I met Andre, and he said it was ok to park my rig there and play. Your right, its a dog track and needs alot of TLC. I've never seen so many young kids running around with cut down clubs....... LOL. I really liked the place though. I got paired up with a older guy there who had driven trucks most of his life and we played 27 holes that day and had alot of laughs with trucking stories. As bad as the course might be, I'd play it alot if I lived nearby just because of the atmosphere...........good people.

My dad works at a course in Greenwood, SC that's as bad as the one the OP describes. The grass is just plain grass, the greens are shaggy and slow (sorry Dad, I know you mow them at 5 am). You often have to man up just to get your tee in the ground on the tee box. Oh the tee boxes are more dirt than grass. There are only 9 holes. Of the 6 par 4's, 3 of them are drivable. One of the par 3's, if you miss the green, there is no where good to be, you're looking at a bogey at best. It's the only course that I've ever chipped off the green (before my dad was working there) because there was a puddle between my ball and the hole (and it hadn't rained that day). I could go on and on, it's just an old, inexpensive, redneck golf course. My dad goes out there a few days a week, mows some lawns, fixes some golf carts, hangs out with the other old guys to talk and play 9. Mostly it gets him out of the house.

I live in Raleigh and have not heard of Meadowbrook Country Club. Able Hands, how long of a drive is it from the RDU airport to there?

From the airport it shouldn't be more than 35-40 minutes. Google says 32 minutes. Keep your expectations low and go to: 8025 Country Club Drive, Garner, NC

If it's been a while since you played it, they are making huge progress... With the exception the first three greens, it's really starting to look more like a golf course. They still have a ways to go, but they are getting there. Next time I'm out I try to remember my camera and take a few pictures to show the difference between the good & bad greens. They really need to update the website to show their progress.

My local course is pretty similar, but just changed ownership and looks a crap ton better than what it did. Still has some issues though with the greens and tee boxes, but the rest is great.

Got an idea for them. Since there's already a World Cup , a Ryder Cup , a President's Cup , a Stocker Cup , and since that is "just an old, inexpensive, redneck golf course", you could have a tournament there and call it the "Hick-Cup" . Ha! Some time, I really crack myself up.
