well I just started playing 2 months ago after not playing for 10 years. 10 years ago I was just a kid, I plan to become a scratch golfer/ in the upper 70's soon

Sorry ...this was not intended to be a poke at you....Often golfer compare themselves to pros, and get upset when they don't have the game or skill, yet expect excellent outcomes......that's why I said that...

They don't have to because they have ready/constant access to tour vans and free equipment to do whatever tweaking they desire.

I love my adjustable driver (Nickent Evolver). No i don't tweak it often anymore, but it probably took me about a month of experimenting with different shafts as well as hosel positions until i found the best and most consistent ball flight for me (which happens to be 1* closed -- which is less closed than my previous "neutral" '07 Burner i believe). In terms of feel, i think it feels more solid than my Burner as well, and MUCH better than the old tin can of a Sumo2 i used to use. If i had a tour van and free equipment, i'd agree adjustable clubs are a waste. For me with limited time and money, well i think it's great. And yes, a fitting in theory could do the same things. However, my "fitting" took over a month of both range time and actual rounds. If you shelled out $300+ for a new driver, custom fit, and found your swing that fitting session wasn't exactly what it would be 2 weeks later, you're pretty much stuck (unless you shell out even more dough). Adjustability gives you a longer "break-in" period i think to discover what works best and most often.

Fairway Woods: Adams Speedline LP (3 & 5)
Hybrids: Wilson Staff Fybrids 21*, 24*, UST V2 stiff
Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour, 5-PW, Rifle Project-X (flighted) 6.0
Wedges: Cleveland CG15 DSG 52* & 58* +/- 56* Niblick

I like my STR8 fit a lot. It allowed me to tinker with it and see how my swing reacts with all the different settings. With out it, I would have never had the luxury to see what works for me and how others don't.

My last two outing were the best I've ever driven the ball.

This is spot on. Even way back in the day,Arnold Palmer was famous for tweaking all his clubs,himself. Now they have tour vans to do it for them. Was arnie "just covering a swing flaw"?

Since the beginning of the game on the Old Course, players have sought out way's to tweak, adjust, and cajole their clubs until they got the desired effect. Lead tape, extra layer of grip tape under the grip to build it up, heating and shaping the hosel, look what Karsten did to the putter. I don't care how it works, if the USGA approves it for play, and it enhances my game, I'll play it. I have hit a couple of the adjustables and don't personally care for them, however if someone does, great. If it gave an unfair advantage the USGA wouldn't approve it for play so hit the big adjustable dog.

Is there anyone else out there that doesnt like adjustable drivers? I don't like the idea of covering your swing flaw with an adjustment on the driver head. Why not adjust your swing instead of the making the driver less square to make you feel like you are hitting it right.

I guess I don't see the difference between this and having clubs built specifically for your swing as the Pros do. At least in terms of not playing with "standard clubs".

anyone and everyone can get fitted for clubs before you buy them and you are suppose to. Im not sure if thats what you mean but you should always get your clubs fitted to your swing, lie angle, length, grip etc

True...but the most of us change our swing over time....for better or worst, and having the ability to adjust my clubs how I'm playing, without having to pay an arm and a a leg, is a huge upside for the amature and pro alike.

      I appreciate that you have taken the time to come back and update. Based on what was previously discussed I feel like the points were; forged, feel good, price, and possibly players distance. If you like the "looks" of those Maxfli irons and if price is a major point, then going straight to the source, Maltby, might make sense. Specifically, the TS3 iron. I was looking into this myself and found some reviews: Fit2YouGolf, Lets Play Thru, and ELITE FIT GOLF. As per your update I found the Maxfli to be ~$1300 fitted the way I wanted. Where the TS3 with the same fitting and assembled by Golfworks was less than $750. I suppose the downside is to actually hit the iron you will need to get lucky and find someone in your golf circle who will let you hit theirs or order a 6 or 7 iron to test. However, the way I look at that is being equivalent to some fittings. If you like the results and buy, then the fitting is free, otherwise the price of the fitting is a sunk cost. If name brand is important, then I submit for your consideration - THE BEST OVERALL IRON of 2024...... FACT !! 😉 A bit tongue in cheek that but also, I feel some good points were discussed.
