After using the same instructor for 8 months, going from a 120+ to 88 in 8 months, and then losing everything and going back to 120+ and never coming back down, my instructor wasn't helping me anymore. I just lost it and couldn't hit a golfball anymore, no matter what instruction he gave me.

He was an older guy, early 60's if I were to guess, and did things a bit old school. He would try to correct my swing, but I couldn't really "feel" what I was doing wrong, so I moved on to another instructor to try to get my swing back before I gave up and quit golf altogether.

I went to a guy that did video analysis of my swing, and then gave me some really simple drills to work on. I was amazed at how much the video helped me see what I was doing wrong, because I couldn't feel what was wrong. And amazingly, the problems that were plaguing my game were relatively simple (to start with, at least). By looking at the video, I could see that I was slouching over the ball, bending my back and not at my hips. I could also see that I was bending my knees too much, and I was too fast with my hips, causing me to hit these horrible low hooks. After one hour swinging just an 8 iron, and watching the video of my swings, I was hitting the ball a lot better. If I concentrate on sticking my butt out instead of bending over, and keeping my feet closer together, I can hit nice, long, fairly straight shots. As soon as I slack on my posture, I start hitting left again.

He also gave me some very easy drills that I can do in my back yard, which my old instructor never did. It seems that doing some parallel back to parallel forward swings, it makes me concentrate on the club position through impact and gives me the feel for what it should feel like through impact on full swings. He also gave me a check to make sure I'm not slouching anymore, by putting the shaft of the club down the center of my back, and if it sticks out at the bottom and doesn't touch or almost touch my belt in the back, I'm slouching and need to straighten my back more.

I'm happy to finally see light at the end of the tunnel again, and I'm actually looking forward to getting on the course again this weekend instead of wondering how bad I'll be hitting the ball.

Video Analysis is worth it's weight in gold to me now.......

I'll never take another lesson without it. You can pretty much take a video of yourself and figure most of your problems out. What you think you are doing is never as it seems..
