Does the push fade and pull hook result from the same basic swing problem with a driver? Are both generally caused from the same swing path with the only difference being an open vs closed club face? I used to slice every drive badly, the kind that started a little left then took a 90* turn. Now I hit fareways some of the time but I have also been alternating between some pull hooks and some push fades.

Cant wait to see replies to this... I am in a similiar situation. I was slicing everything I hit due to outside-in path. I started trying to fix this and my swing became more on plane, not perfect, but better and it seems that slices are rare now, but push fades are very common and pull hooks creep in there to.

I also have the same problem. Push fade (not slicing) and pull hook.

Answer is yes.

I have the same issue, happens every 5th or 6th drive. Working on it past 2 weeks, getting better by rotating my body more and bringing my hands back to same position as at address.

i've had about the worst case of the hooks I've ever seen. I mostly solved it by NOT hinging my left wrist, and just making a bigger turn, but not overswinging. My only 2 thoughts when I swing are solid left wrist, and watch the ball fly off the center of the clubface.

It appears you have more than one problem going on. Aside from differing swing paths, you also appear to be hitting the ball off the toe and off the heel. Thus the gear effect comes into play causing ball spin into a draw or fade (from and already improper swing).

I've gotten a bad cause of the hooks and pulls -- I have a driver with a draw bias that I hit fine with my old swing. However I've since been taking lessons and am now hitting it left and hooking it some, making my aim a lot more sporatic, seeing as my old swing will creep in and throw a slice on things =] Going to talk to my pro, see if it's a swing thing or a driver thing. I'm upset I bought a draw bias now seeing as I want problems to stem from my swing and thus, I want good things to come from my swing too... Rather than just covering up problems or creating good with the draw club.

It may be that your weight is staying on your back foot, leaving the club face open and if you try to save it you just close the face down. well, that used to be what i would do when i used to have this problem

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
