Playing in a scramble yesterday, I had a blind pitch shot that was danger all the way. The ball was sitting up in the rough and had to be hit to an alley between two bunkers to a downhill sideslope pin. There was plenty of green to work with and the top of the flag was visible. I lined up the shot and concentrated on just striking the ball. It worked out wonderfully and settled about 5 feet from the pin. After thinking about this shot after the round, I realized that maybe my mind wanders to much when faced with an easier pitch and that if i treated every short shot as a blind shot I might be better off. Concentrating on just hitting the ball squarely paid off, and I hope I have learned my lesson. Anyone else ever notice that they play blind shots better?

Actually, yes. When I hit the ball over a tree (or a row of trees) or out of a ditch, I focus on making good contact and it's typically a good shot. Maybe I need to imagine a tree in way for approach shots!?!?

I think that I have been taking too many shots for granted lately and not visualizing every one. Thanks for the kick in the bee hind.

Good contact and just trying to imagine how the ball is going to roll out usually produces the best shot for me.

Make sure you always go up and take in the contour of the green, where you want to land it, etc. though before you hit.

I hear you though. That's why I don't like to overthink my easier chip shots, just get up to the ball and feel the distance.

    • Great year last year. Who winning this year could be another special story? Brooks? Spieth? Or Aberg? An AM? I dont know if anything could top last year
    • I love Rancho Park too!  I don't get out there much due to the 405 issues (Im in Santa Clarita) but I do try and get out there every now and then...last time out was in January where I eagled 17 (left green) with a holed 145 yard third shot ! Rancho is a great course! And at 24 bucks weekday with the city card, an absolute steal!
    • I have played PGA West, at least one or two courses in there, but I am not sure if I've played any of the courses used to host the Hope. I played a course that I think both isn't PGA West and is host to the Hope a few years ago, possibly at a TST outing, but I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the right one. I have played Rancho Park plenty of times (exactly half of my sub-80 rounds were there!) and Wilson/Harding.  Rancho Park might be my favorite golf course among those I've played more than a half dozen times.   Hopefully I'll get a chance to play TPC Scottsdale, maybe this August or September, and at some point I think there was a PGA Tour event in Las Vegas, I should get up there and play those course(s).
