For most people about 10-15 yards less carry distance, maybe a little bigger difference in firm conditions because of the roll out 15-20 total.

hmm ok
was just wondering, i want a club to hit on the short par 4s that gives me better distance than a 3 iron but is still controllable
what's a typical 5 wood go? 215? just wondering someone is selling a 2009 one for 50 bucks, typically i'd want a 3 wood but money is tight

That 5 wood will travel about as far as a 2 iron. But much higher.

Yeah right now i'm playing a course that is a bitch cause i gotta hit 3 iron off the tee, then I either gotta lay up or try to smack a 3 iron and carry it 200 ish from elevated but if i miss hit in anyway i'll throw up an 8 on that hole
i suppose i could just lay up but a 3/5 wood would help on a lot of holes

If you really want a 3 wood then I would hold out. If money is tight, do you have a Play It Again Sports around you?

I had the same gap from Driver to 3i and wanted a club for short par 4s as well. I recently picked up a used 15.5 Nickent hybrid. Figured it had a low enough loft to help keep the ball down since hybrids tend to go high. I haven't hit it enough to figure out the distance, but it's higher than my 3i and maybe a little longer. I think I still want a 2i for short par 4s.

Problem with hybrids is that with most of them, out of the blue, it sometimes is so easy to end up with a severe hook, so I still prefer the 2 iron off the tee and somehow a 18* 5W (uhhh 4W actually) is also a very fine weapon ..... mostly a bit longer than the 2 iron and easier to hit aswell. A 3W is very hard to control and for most players it has to much side spin.

The difference between a 3W and 5W (4W) is for most golfers less then 15 yds. unless you opt for a 13* 3W ..... butt using that from the fairway is even for a pro, kind of gambling .....
