Yesterday I played at Poppy Ridge in Livermore in an NCGA qualifier. The format was 'Best two (net) balls of four.' We made the cut (sectionals) and are heading to the finals at the end of August. We play a 2-day tournament: Poppy Hills and Spyglass. We had to pay green fees for the local and sectional rounds, but the finals are FREE!!!

I've got a month to get my game up. I contributed 7 net strokes under par to the team, but really feel I could have done better.

Heheh....Spyglass....I can't wait!

If you need a place to stay, I got a buddy who owns a motel in Monterey. Nice place, decent rates. I grew up in Pacific Grove, so I'm familiar on the area. Congrats on your success at the qual's, and continued into the finals!

Welp, we placed in the middle of the pack. My partner and I played well (he had 10 straight pars at Spyglass and I put in some net eagles and birdies), but the other 1/2 of our 4-man team stunk it up. At the end of the tournament there were 2 teams pretty much tied (Poppy Hills). On 18 (a Par 5), a guy on one of the two teams in contention is laying 2 about 140 (?) out and he holes it for an eagle, with a pop, for a net 2 - GAME OVER! He did this with pretty much the whole tournament watching and he got a screaming ovation. I wished we played better, but, oh well, that's how it goes.

I think I might like Spyglass more than PB.

Anyway - I realize I love tournament golf and will be looking around for places to enter.
