I was pretty pumped to shoot my best ever round earlier this week by finally breaking par for the first time and shooting a 69(-1). Although the course was by no means difficult, it was not a complete joke at 6300yrds par 70. I was so enthused from shooting my personal best round that I decided to play the very next day on a different course and was able to shoot a 68(-2). That round was played on a 6200yrd par70 track. I can say without a doubt that I can credit these rounds to extra practice that I put into my short game. I didn't put in a ton of hours, but just a few mins practicing my putting before rounds and even chipping on the lawn at home.

I kept some statistics on my 2nd round of 68 and it tells the story of how my round went. My ball-striking was average at best, but my putting/chipping were much better then they have ever been. My round consisted of 1 double bogey, 2 bogeys, 9 pars and 6 birdies.

G.I.R - 11 of 18 61%
Fairways - 8 of 12 67%
Total Putts - 27
3 Putts - 0
Penalty Strokes - 1

I would recommend to anyone trying to breakthrough a plateau to work on their short game to shave off those last few strokes. I know it was the key for me and I will now practice my short game more then my long game (which needs improvement )

    • I had a few tweeks in the bag. I took out my Mizuno pro FliHi 3 iron replaced it with a Titleist GT2 7 Wood. what a change that is, so easy to hit, it goes so high without it ballooning on me. I couldn't get rid of my callaway woods ( Rogue ST Max LS ) but changed the shafts to Diamana BB 63 stiff for the driver and 73 stiff for the 3 wood. Than i got myself a new putter Odyssey S2S jailbird yes i joined the centershaft family
    • First off all i think you should use the same ball all the time. We all strive for consistency on the course, the only factor you can be sure it will be always the same is your ball if you always use the same. So i think we should always use the same. I recently switched from Titleist Pro V1x to Srixon Z-Star Diamond because it i get a bit softer feel around the greens and same results on driver and irons
