I had an interesting "career" round this week and shot a 69 off my 13.6 HDCP. The course was a par 66 so it doesn't count as breaking 70, but the round still left me wondering what was up?

1 double (that I got screwed on as I had a great drive and great approach that bounce off something pin high and went 30 more yards OB)
5 bogies
4 birdies

The place was a goat track of a course we played for a tournament and to be honest I was not paying that much attention to my game.

Hopefully I can find that form again today.

4 bogies, 4 birdies, and 1 double is 2 over (68).

Par 66? Is this a course you made in your backyard or what?

Sorry typo - 5 bogies. The course was muni 9 hole that you play twice for 18. The fairways and tee boxes were crap, but the greens were actually pretty good, but super slow (which let me be very agressive with my putts)

My home course is par 66 (6 holes), was par 63 until they changed a par 4 into par 5.

Because shooting 9 under your handicap is good?

Not sure I am really bragging. I found it more odd then good. But I am trying to learn from it. I played well, because I didn't really care if I played well, the was next to no rough and I could not get ahed of myself as I did not know the course.

Funny thing is I shot a 78 on a par 71 yesterday, this could be a good sign for my game. PS: you are very good golfer but don't be a$$ about peoples progress in golf, for good reason people should be proud of of 99, 89, 79 etc.I am sure you were happy about your first 3 over par score.

im glad you played well

but a net score really means nothing why even keep track of a NET score....you dont get to enter a net score for your index so how does keeping track of it, help you get better? 78 yesterday is a good score......why didnt you tell me your net score, as u did in your first post??? IMO, forget about net focus on your ACTUAL score over par and learn from that

It is real simple, shooting a negative net score means your improving or atleast playing better then you have been. I play 10-20 net tournements each year and $5 net game with 20 other guys each weekend. Net does matter to me. (;

Saying I shot my cap our x number under my cap is very good short hand for how well you played vs your current skill level.

i played 2 net tournaments this year and wont play in any more (with the exception of the club championship, as the low GROSS winner is stil the winner)

if you went out and won a tournament w net score, you would be happy?
not me.....i personally think its a poor way of showing your "ability" to score

play it straight up or nothing

What are you rambling about? With only gross score tournaments, nobody would play because the low handicappers would always win.

Nice thought but 99% of golfers could never play in tournements then. The net tourny I play in at our club has a gross winner too, but if they were just gross tourny only about 30 people in our club would play. We do have a scratch league though that plays straight up all the time.

exactly

i dont know one low index player that actually LIKES to play in net tourney's...they are a joke play against the guys that are similar index's as you or at the very least flight everyone its guys like you that shoot a "record low", best round of my life" 77 that ruin these types of tournaments (not you in general, just sayin) anyways....this thread is goin no where ok then...good you shot a great NET under par score [golf clap/]
