What do you do when it gets dark and you have two holes left for a great round? Just a general question but it comes up a lot and sometimes I want that score for my handicap and I end up playing it in the dark with easier swings and accurate 7 iron tee shots. I end up with a bogey but hey I finished. What do you find yourself doing? glow in the dark balls?

I try to play as long as i can. The moment i cant see the ball fly is when i finish up the hole and call it off. I'f ive played through 13, i give myself a score for the rest of the holes and a 18 hole score - per the rules of golf

I will mark down the score that I think I would get... It can be based on how I've played during this round, or how I've played the course before.
If I've been sticking the par 3's and par 5'sall day then I'll mark a par if the last two have 3's or 5's. If my back nine has a bunch of bogeys on the par 4's and the last two contain a par 4, I might give myself a bogey for the 4.

Even par through 9 is my best.  I don't even want to think about what was my worst.

For handicap purposes you can enter an 18 hole score as long as you played at least 13 holes. The scores used for holes you did not play depends on those holes' handicaps and your course index - you can search for more info if you're interested.

I have the opposite problem, I usually tee off very early in the morning, and it's tough to see my first hole, and sometimes the tee shot on the second.

What do I do you ask... I just pull out my yellow Srixon Z-Star and play away... haven't lost one yet. They don't glow in the dark... but they're the next best thing

Cheers, Allan

I can't remember how many great rounds I've lost due to rain or darkness. It's something I just have to live with. In fact, I was +2 after 11 holes last weekend but it rained so hard we had to leave the golf course.

    • I'll try to post a bit more here as the season moves on.  Yesterday was my first "referee gig" this year, the first of a two-day event for juniors.  No real unusual rulings, but a couple of slightly complicated situations with two consecutive drops.  There's a hole with a Red Penalty Area down the right, with a cart path running parallel.  On a couple of occasions a player had to take Penalty Area relief.  Two clublengths from the point of entry required dropping no further left than the center of the cart path.   Once that relief procedure was completed, he took relief from the cart path.  Due to the relatively small distance between the path and the PA, the Nearest Point of Complete Relief was to the "fairway side" of the path.  I made the Player consider a drop to the PA side, with the player's feet clear of the path (i.e. complete relief from interference), but that would have put the drop in the Penalty Area, which isn't acceptable. Something which I now see as common, this 36-hole event is defined as four 9-hole stipulated rounds.  This is done so that, if bad weather sets in, there can be legitimate results if everyone has completed at least 9 holes.
