Dark you are doing everything right, don't change. Unless you find a par 3 course you can get on for your single rounds, the big course will have to do. Playing is the only way to learn the complete game. Do it every chance you get and get some lessons, and you will get better. Oh and don't get a big head when you do start to get better.

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

This is my second season playing and I've shot an 89 and a 90 this season so far, which I think is pretty decent. What I did was work on accuracy first over distance. If you find the correct swing motion, you will add power gradually.

Played again today at the same course and did MUCH better. I was hitting my driver and irons pretty well but my chipping still needs some work (it was better though). I shot 97 through 16 which was a 21 shot improvement over Saturday. Was able to finish all 18 with a 111. Got a lot to work to do still but did much better out there today.

How long does it usually take you guys to play 18? We started at 3:45 and were not done until about 7:45 is that about average? By the time we got to the back nine it got kind of backed up and by the 16th we were waiting at least 5-10 minutes before we could tee off on the last three holes.

Good stuff. I don't even bother with my driver atm. I just use my 5W, then usually a hybrid or 7i from there. At minimum track your score and putts everytime you go out there, find the weaknesses and work on them. IMO, At our level sometimes the score can be misleading to how you really played. There are times when I score 107 and left much happier then when I scored 100 on the same course. But my main priority at the moment is to become a more consistent ball striker, on average I usually grub one shot per hole, that bothers me more than making a three putt. (At the moment anyway)

Three putts really aggravate me for but your right, I usually screw my shots from around 30-60 feet up and that feels even worse to me because its basically a wasted shot (Sometimes two in my case haha). Going to keep chipping around the yard to try and work on that. Right now I do not have a fairway wood but I hit my 4 hybrid on a few short par 4s which usually resulted in a better shot. I am thinking about picking up a 3 or 4 wood to use instead of my driver sometimes.

lets say your able to two putt ever green, thats 36 putts, thats usually over 25% of your game, so spend over 25% of your time on the putting green. Then driver, then irons. Try to make it so you can hit as many greens as possible. Short game is all technique and feel, you can spend some spare time.

Yeah I know I really need to work on my putting I had way to many 3 putts and no 1 putts. The only green that I can find to practice on around here charges 6 bucks a day and its about 40 mins away so its not real practical. I am probably just going to break down and get a decent sized putting matt to put in my basement.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
