Anyone ever tried one of these?

Like an electronic dart board, The Putting Game puts a score on the precision of each putt (all putts are graded on a scale of 0 to 100 based on directional accuracy and speed). To make it fun the device presents a series of putting challenges (typically 5 putts in each challenge), totals the individual putt scores, and then presents a final score. These putting challenges (or games as we like to call them) make you focus and try your very best. The games raise the bar for you each time you play and enable you to measure your progress as time goes on.

What is this, a sort of putting mat? A video or computer game? Link?

Edit: Sounds awesome, like to know more.

Thanks.

Looks cool, but that's damn pricey! My whole bag didn't cost a whole lot more than that!

I use it at the pro shop near me. Definitely not worth the price tag IMO. Just buy one of those cheap putting mats for $40 if you want something indoors.

Interesting, if it were cheaper, I'd definitely get it. I could see myself getting into it and spending an hour at a time practicing. Just rolling balls on the carpet usually only keeps me interested for a few putts.

Did anybody watch the pretty long video that demonstrates the games?
http://www.theputtinggame.com/about/videos.aspx

My first thought was that it was really wierd and meaningless to stand 5 feet away and imagine hitting to a cup 20 feet away on a 12.5 stimp green. Then I realized it would actually let you practice hitting to different distances - ie - harder or softer - it doesn't really matter what you visualize. Some of the games, especially the last one, seem like they would be helpfull. Some others, like "diminishing cup", which is supposed to simulate pressure situations, I'm not so sure about. I guess it would come down to whether or not the unit made putting practice fun enough to effect the amount of practicing I do.

Too much of a gamble for >$300, though . . .if it were cheaper, I'd give it a go.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
    • I played tennis in college. I thought block practice was great for serves because you were starting the point and  you could easily adjust where you wanted to place the ball based off the same motion. I equate those to tee balls. I despised block practice for groundstrokes once you reached a certain level and your fundamentals were good. To me, hitting a 100 crosscourt backhands in a row was silly because I would never do that in a match. I needed to randomize it by hitting some deep, some angled, all with different speeds and spins. I share that same thought about iron play. Because we seldom hit the same approach shots hole after hole, I prefer to practice irons randomly.
