Started the year using Adams Idea Pro Forged 5-PW but quickly switched over to J33 combos for half the season. The swing weight really threw me off so I bought the lighter Nike VR split cavities. Lately I haven't been playing or practicing much but the club ho in me still wants the iron set that I have been eyeing for over a year, the Macgregor MT CM forged irons.

Also, I'm afraid I may become a shaft ho as well. Been playing the stock Matrix Ozik in my 9015D and have never previously sought after aftermarket shaft. Ready to pull the trigger on a UST Axivcore Green 75, UST Axivcore Red 69, ProLaunch Red 65, and possibly a Diamana Blueboard 63.

With the season winding down it so does not make sense for me to purchase these but the urge is not easy to contain.

It takes about half a year, playing at least 2-3 times a week, to really get into any set, so if you are into your fourth set this season, none of your sets have had the opportunity to become yours.......

I am not a Nike fan, but the VR Split Cavities really look to be a great set !

If you aren't playing or practicing much, you should stay away from the Macregor combos.

Is there something wrong with the splits? Or are you just fickle?

That's seems like a pretty astonishing statement. I'm not disputing the numbers I'm just wondering where they originated from, they seem so ... definitive.

wrx_junki: +1 for what shades9323 said about the combos. However, I haven't hit the CMs only the Ms. The swing weight on my Ms are in the D3-D4 range with DG S300 shafts. I think that is sort of typical for a "players" club (in my experience D1-D4 range so say D2). You might have actually meant total weight more than swing weight in your original post, I couldn't really tell.

I hope you're not looking for persuasion from buying, I can't stop either. Just bought the Axiv Green, have two Harrison Mugens on the way. It's fun to find "the" shaft that is a perfect fit for you. Not saying you'll necessarily gain 20yds and start hitting 25% more fairways, but there are performance gains as well as "feel" differences to work out.

I switched irons in 1974, 1994 and in 2009. Each time, it took me about two months to get used to the clubs, and into the second season to truly get the feel for them. This was playing 3-5 times a month and hitting balls on occasion.

I would suggest if you were a junior golf kid, a college player or a Tour pro, you could pick it up faster. But for average players, seems it would take awhile.

Well I just ordered a Nike VR forged 56° and probably will order the ProLaunch Red from eBay for $25 w/ free shipping.

The Axivcore Green is out of stock at Rockbottomgolf.com so I won't be making the purchase unless they will come back in stock. Saw the MacGregor combos at the shop and the heads are small compared to my VR splits but I hit them well at the range. The grips on those might be worse than the ones on my Nike's.

To make matters worse I hit my friend's MP-68's on the course today and they felt real nice as well (he's a 30 handicap -_-). Only tried 6-PW and none of the longer irons. I definitely can't justify spending $500+ on irons though so they are out of the question. They look sooo nice though.
