I'm trying to get my driver back and one thing I know is that I tend to collapse my left arm during my follow through (and possibly impact).

I think I am supposed to keep it extended throughout. Am I wrong?

Is there any drills to keep the left arm extended through the whole swing? (the flying wedge drill has been great)

Don't feel like you have to lock your left arm, but you don't want it to collapse like having a chicken wing in the follow through. Swing in slow motion infront of a mirror looking, making sure your not collapsing. If you cann't do it in slow motion then you probably can't do it at full speed.

I spent some time at the range working on this with nice easy swings. I overheard a dad say swing through the ball and after feeling good at keeping extention through impact and started swinging through the ball more.

I had to really get on it to swing through the ball. I think I found the first step to fix my driver.

If I really get on it, and stay on in through the swing......... everything comes together. Extended left arm, swing through the ball, full turn...... I had a few balls left after I figured this out and sure enough my irons straightened out too. I think I've just been getting lazy halfway through the swing.

Thanks for reaffirming what I thought I was messing up. If it quits raining I might get to try it on the course.

Swinging through the ball is a def important. I have found that for me I picture the swing of drive as making a huge straight "U" shape. I think about the driver coming back and then swinging all the way through the lowest point to the top of the U. The ball just gets in the way of the swing and the results are usually pretty good.

    • Day 53. Played 9. Couldn’t find the bottom of the swing arc. It was bad.
    • Awesome, thank you very much. I ended up giving them a call and you are right. Got to try out some different clubs, the first suggestion was the Wilson Staff Launch Pad irons I believe, the hybrid irons. Personally I wasn't liking them all too much, however they were much better than the old '74 MacGregor blades I've been playing. Then I tried a couple others, I forget what the one was but the one I ended up liking the best was the Cobra Aerojet irons. Overall feel and performance was the best for me on these, I also preferred the appearance and sound of these. Bit the bullet.

    • Live Updates from the range! Open the club face at address, and trust that you’re gonna be able to get the face in a good position at impact. I don’t have to feel like I have to keep the face open throughout the entire downswing. The swing feels much more free-flowing through impact. Difference in ball flight is that previously it would be a low to mid trajectory that starts straight and draw left, or slight pulls. New ball flight are high push draws.  It’s kind of stupid. I feel like it should slice off the planet. I look up and it’s maybe a slight push. 🤣 Some distant wedge feels. More weight on front foot. Keep weight on front foot.  Pivot around left knee. Solid contact all the time.
